So this round of Fat Wars goes to . . .
The body. URK! Up 1.5 lbs from yesterday. My criteria for pulling the plug is weight gain, so I'm back to 1680 calories, 120 g of fat today. And somewhat relieved since my stomach didn't feel all that great eating so much. Not sure what the next round will be, but I'll have to see how eating my normal low carb way does in the next few weeks. I'm hoping if anything that two days of fat loading perhaps shook things up so my metabolism gets in gear again, but who knows. |

Is one day of weight gain a real indicator that your experiment is really adding fat to your body?
I only ask because my weight bounces up and down 1-2 pounds from day to day, so one day of gain doesn't necessarily mean much. This is why I weigh every day and then take the weekly average as my "official" weight. The average is a more accurate picture of the trend things are taking. Of course, if your experiment is grossing you out, it's not exactly sustainable , and I believe in sustainable WOE. |

I fluctuate that way too, but in this case I did decide to base it on day to day because I am now FIVE pounds above my low weight meaning I've gained back more than 10% of my hard won weight loss.
At least now it's because of something I did rather than doing things right and gaining anyway, but it still sucks. I'm just hoping it gives my metabolism a positive boost after all, but we'll see. My 1year low carb anniversary is June 16th and I was really hoping to have at least 50 lbs lost. Now I'll be lucky to have 40 lbs lost. POOP! |

Um, TMI alert ahead: Speaking of POOP in the literal context, are all systems running normally? My pain meds back me up something terrible, literally 7-10 days between even with minimal dosages of senna. Have to maximize the senna and even suffer through 24 hour detoxes from the pain meds to get/keep things going. I know that contributes a lot to my stall(s) so I'm trying to balance the two elements.
But still, that could be a huge factor whether diet-caused, med-caused or any other cause. And as you are too-well aware, stressing over the stalls and gains only makes them worse, frustrating as that is! Hang in there and you will unlock the mystery soon! Really. Even if you don't make your anniversary goals, it won't be any less sweet when you unlock it even a bit late. As long as you aren't giving up and giving in, you'll be there eventually. And try not to fixate on the percentage of your loss gained; it's only adding to your stress and your sense of despair. Think of the five as what many of us gain for TOM and as within range of what many have as typical fluctuation and fight that down, not so much the percentage part.

Hold on here, I'm not ready to conclude from an experiment if two days duration that this means anything at all except that I'm not willing to continue on the chance (and only the chance!) that I might continue to gain and I'm not willing to do so.
I also lost half a pound the first day, so what does this mean??? Not much of anything at all. I'm just trying to stir up my metabolism, and well see if it even has any lasting effect. |

OK, well I feel a lot better today! I came in right on target on calories, fat, protein, went over my carbs by 2 grams (oh my!). I don't feel overstuffed and my stomach is quiet and comfortable.
I took my oldest DD to the movies today (First Position--wonderful but take tissues!) and wasn't even tempted to taste her popcorn--usually I will have a few pieces at least. I just felt good all day. We'll see what the scale says tomorrow. |

This morning I am down 2 lbs since yesterday. All I did was eat my normal, low carb diet. All this shows me is that the weight gains and losses in the past few days of my experiment are probably not fat loss, but water. My rings were a bit tight yesterday and not fully as loose as they have been this morning.
My stomach certainly feels better and I am hungry for breakfast this morning. Yesterday and the day before I didn't have much appetite. My plan is to continue to eat my normal diet which is 20 to 30 grams net carbs, 70 to 75% fat, and hopefully things will have been stirred up enough to continue to lose some real weight too. |

Hang in there, Janknitz, and keep fighting! You are making progress, even if it doesn't feel like it. I've been fighting a stall for a couple of months and think I'm getting through it now, too!
Thanks for keeping us posted on your progress, both the setbacks and the positive milestones – we learn from both and value your experience and your insight! |

I would guess the weight gain was due to constipation, if everything else stayed the same...

I wasn't constipated, so I can't blame that.
However, I do find a significant difference if I weigh myself before and after, erm-- "evacuating". Close to a pound. I'm a little ashamed to admit that because it makes me sound totally scale obsessed, and in reality I'm only a little scale obsessed, but mostly very curious! ![]() |

No change in weight today. I was almost 400 calories under my BMR yesterday, usually that means no weight lost, and it was certainly true today.
Last night I was hungry and had cravings, too close to bedtime to eat more. Woke up ravenous this morning--very unusual for me to ever feel that kind of hunger--even when I only eat 900 calories in an entire day I don't feel hungry or have cravings. Not sure why. I was still feeling very hungry after breakfast but it's calmed down now. I'll try to eat lunch soon. The one thing my fat loading seems to have done in a positive direction is that my fasting blood sugars had been creeping over 100. Yesterday and today they were perfect 90 and 88 respectively. But looks like I am stuck with 3 pounds to lose to get to my low, again. GRRRR. |
