Calling all Full-fat Greek Yogurt Lovers!

Please tell me where you find full-fat Greek Yogurt...we split our time between Nebraska & Florida, and I'm not finding it in the grocery stores either place. Lots of Greek yogurt in several brands, but it's all zero fat (and/or full of sugar & fruit!) What's the point of that!!!

Where do you find full-fat, what brands to look for?

Help, please!

The only place I've ever found full-fat greek yogurt is Trader Joe's. I usually get the Fage brand and my usual grocery store only has the 2% and fat free.

I hate that FAGE has recently increased their full-fat Total Classic from 7 carbs per cup to 9. They were already catering to the fat-phobes with their 2% & 0% - so why mess with ours? So disappointing.

Greek Gods yogurt has a full fat version, in the green container. I can only find it at Kroger and Whole Foods, it is the best I have found. I like the Fage even if it is only 2%, which is all I can find anywhere. I have also purchased the whole milk organic version of Stoneyfield and strained it overnight in coffee filters inside a strainer, inside a bowl with the top covered. You lose about 50% volume that way so it is more economical to purchase it already Greek style.

I can't even find the full-fat FAGE...I'd take 9 carbs if it was full-fat. But the stores I shop at carry only the 2% and no-fat FAGE now (Publix and SweetBay in Florida...Bakers(a Kroger-owned regional chain, but does not carry all the same lines as Kroger) and HyVee (regional chain) in Nebraska. Occasionally I find a full-fat yogurt in the Organic-specialty area of HyVee, but not very often. I suspect they don't get it in on a regular basis and then people snap it up quickly.

And Whole Foods is not close to us in Nebraska or Florida...both places it's about 90 minutes round trip drive. Not something I want to do on a weekly basis!

I can't offer much help because I can't find it locally in northern Ohio. Whole Foods is a 90min trip for me too. I've just been buying full fat Dannon (in a big container) and straining it. I put it in a strainer with a coffee filter inside and cover it and put it in the fridge overnight. The whey drains out at you have something like yocheese.

I haven't seen any full fat Fage (or anything other than Dannon) in ages.

I make my own. I can't find it anywhere. We don't have Trader Joe's.

Super easy. You need a crock pot and some towels.

Pour milk into crockpot. Heat milk to 180, let cool to 110-115, remove a little and add starter (I use yogurt from previous batch but for the first time I bougt a little plain greek yogurt) then stir back into crockpot. Turn off and unplug crockpot. Cover crockpot with towels (I use 3 big ones) and let sit on the counter all night. In the morning, take a large bowl and put a colander in it. Line the colander with cheesecloth or a thin floursack dishtowel.

Pour the yogurt from the crockpot into the bowl. Cover with the edges of the dishtowel folded over and put the whole thing in the fridge. In about 6-8hrs, the whey has drained and you are left with the most delicious, full fat greek yogurt. Yum! Works great.

I just put my location in at the Fage site and the only place that carries the full fat is Whole Foods which is 40 minutes from me. I can't see me running into N.O. just to buy yogurt.

I don't know about stores in Nebraska or Florida, but I can tell you that in Minnesota it is available at ...
Whole Foods
Kowalskis (local chain)
Byerly's (local chain)
Mississippi Market (co-op/health food store)

And in California it is available at ...
Whole Foods
Gelson's (local chain)
New Leaf (local co-op)

So I guess my thought is to find a Whole Foods or check the local chains, health food stores or co-ops!

Edit: Just saw that you posted about Whole Foods! Scratch that!

I also eat Greek Gods plain full fat plain yogurt, which I get at my local food coop (the closest grocery store to my house). I've also seen Greek Gods at other Minneapolis grocery stores like Rainbow Foods and Lunds.

Which companies' dairy foods are available seems to vary a lot by region. I've always had yogurt and cottage cheese as staples in what I eat, but the brands available have varied in different states (e.g., Michigan, Pennsylvania, DC, Minnesota, California) where I've lived for school or work.

My favorite full fat greek yogurt is Greek Gods Honey flavor. It's in the single serving size. It's 23g though HAHA but it's absolutely sinful. (I have poured 1 container of this yogurt over a bowl full of mixed berries and divided that into 6 portions and enjoyed it this way before)

If I didn't have to think about carbs and sweeteners, I would LIVE ON Greek Gods honey flavor yogurt. I can eat one of the BIG containers in a sitting. Sadly, I just don't have the self-control you do to limit my intake of it, so it's not an option for me now. But I do miss it!

I can only find full-fat Fage at Central Market, which is a TX-based small chain of organic stores.

I recently discovered the Greek Gods yogurt at Kroger, though, so I often buy that instead.

Isn't it ridiculous how wonderful the honey flavor tastes? Before I went LC I would whip the honey yogurt with 8oz of marscapone cheese and put it in a tart pan and top with fresh berries. I don't really have great self control. When I say I portion it out into 6 dishes, I mean I have 5 other people with me and we all eat a dish so there's none left for me to wolf down

Now there's a reason for me to entertain! I am having two friends come to dinner on Saturday and was going to serve fresh fruit for dessert. Maybe I'll make dessert individualized bowls of berries, mixed with honey flavored Greek Gods yogurt, so I get 1/3 of a serving and no more!

Yep! It's the best compromise I've found so far! Because that yogurt tastes like a dessert, like a treat! Goodluck!

If you can only find lite Greek yogurts, can't you just enjoy them at that fat percentage? Unless they just taste awful to you.. I would think that you would be getting plenty of fat in your diet from other sources. Perhaps stir a bit of heavy whipping cream into the lite yogurt version to up its fat percentage if you need to have everything be higher fat.

Also, try some MidEastern groceries, and also Asian markets, as sometimes they stock foods and ingredients used in ethnic cooking beyond just Asian foods.

Yup, this is what we have at our Fred Meyer (same parent company as Kroger). Greek Gods brand Plain yogurt is by FAR the tastiest, too. Love it!

They carry Greek Gods at Price Chopper, if you're in upstate NY. And not at Wegman's, which is kind of a surprise.

the Fat Free Greek yogurt I got at Kroger taste like wet chalk. Not in flavor, but the texture is dry like feta cheese dry. Not the texture I associate with good yogurt, in fact, It makes me think it's gone off. Stirring oil into it helps a little but then it tastes like oily dryness.

I think I prefer making my own from regular yogurt.

Almost anything made from scratch at home tastes better than grocery store offerings.

When I think 'low fat' I think 'chemicals'. They almost always add 'stuff' to make up for the lost fat.

Well see then, there is the problem. There is nothing added. I checked the ingredients. maybe if they HAD added some fillers at least the texture would be nicer.

I buy the Lite sugar free flavored yogurts and they have a bit of filler. I didn't realize they were fat free for a long time, haha.

The Kroger greek yogurt is pretty much plain and simple, I think they start from fat free milk, just fat free greek yogurt doesn't taste good to my mouth.

Where I live, any yogurt that is reduced fat or fat free has something added. The States has far larger selection of just about anything I can think of....
