I have been having them the last week or so, yummy. I slice up 3 or 4 and drizzle with cream and a dash of splenda. No problems for me.
I have never ever been a fruit lover. But once and while I do strawberries and blueberries. |

I ate some purple cabbage slow cooked with bacon until it had almost carmelized, and it tasted so sweet, like a wonderful dessert! I really can taste the sweetness in fruits and vegetables so much more clearly when I avoid sugar (and sugar substitutes, too, in my case).

I've never been a big fan of fruit except for berries, cherries, and melon. Melon I can live without, but I do love strawberries and blueberries in season, and cherries at least once this summer. I eat 3 to 5 strawberries or 10 to 20 blueberries (depending on size) and I slice the strawberries up so they seem to go farther, then eat them with plenty of whipped cream--the whipped cream fills me up so the cravings for more don't happen. Sometimes I make a smoothie with the berries.
I was doing berry smoothies daily for a while, but I was also stalled at the time--I don't think it was the berries, because the weight still didn't come off when I stopped putting them in my smoothies. And it is truly incredible how amazingly sweet a strawberry is now! WOW! When strawberries get really inexpensive I plan to dry some in the food dehydrator. I think I could powder those and have strawberry flavoring for a smoothie, or chop them up into bits to add to yogurt or low carb granola throughout the year. |

ok what's the deal with strawberries that would warrent a thread about them? I am doing low carb but is there something I should know about strawberries besides the fact that they are pretty much the lowest carb fruit ( I think ) ? I have not read Atkins book but I downloaded the food list for phase 1 which I am TRYING to follow right now ( which by the way is HARD especially since I don't really know what I'm doing

I love adding them to my Greek yogurt for my lunch. And adding whipped cream to them for a dessert. When they are in season is when I have them daily. Otherwise I don't have them at all. |

I only eat fruit that's local, while it's in season; I never want it the rest of the year. So right now, I'm starting to eat strawberries again. Raspberry season comes in late June. Later in the summer, it will be melons and the occasional peach or apricot (because I love them that much). Then, in late August, blackberry season starts. I'll eat a couple of apples in the fall, then fruit pretty much disappears from my diet until the following May.
I don't eat fruit every day, even when it's in season, but I do allow myself to "pig out" on it once in a while--maybe once a week. But a pig-out for me isn't really that much; there's only so much fruit I can really stand to eat at one go (unlike nuts or chocolate). Once a week isn't enough to throw me out of ketosis. So it's my summertime indulgence. |

the good news (for me, anyway) is that the song
STRAWBERRY Fields is zero carb, so I can play it as often as I please. FF

I eat a few strawberries or blackberries almost every day. I read once that having a few berries before bed, gives you a bit of good carbs and can help with sleeping if you are on a carb restricted eating plan. Sounds weird but it works for me!

Yes--it's very important. I eat strawberries year-round (live in Southern California) and can't live without them! I get them every Saturday from the Farmer's Market.

Some weeks I crave them, and I'll have a portion for breakfast every day. Then I might go a month without them. I find that they don't really make me lose any slower - I just have to be quite diligent with portion control, and any hidden carbs I'm getting anywhere else.

I love them and find that just 3 or 4 sliced up over some cottage cheese or greek yogurt is plenty! They are also great paired with cheese!

Absolutely. 1/2 cup of sliced strawberries has only 5 grams of net carbs, so it fits in well with a LC woe. Ours are ripe now, and they're delicious with heavy cream!

I often eat Strawberries for my dessert. I will sprinkle some splenda on them and pour a little heavy cream over them as well....delicious. But, when doing under 20 grams it's almost impossible to add in fruit. I do more than 20 so it works for me!

About once a week, I use frozen berries including strawberries as the 'ice' in my whey protein shake. When they are in season, I freeze them myself, and pop some fresh ones.
