KE Diet

I was watching tv last night. I believe it was 20/20. But they were talking about different diets. So apparently there is a getting tube diet. 800 calories, and the formula is protein, fat and water. I looked it up and it's supposed to put you in a, state of ketosis because you are not eating any carbs whatsoever. And mainly because the calorie intake is so low. People are apparently losing like 20 pounds in 10 days. My point is, why don't these people go on a low carb diet? Also, as radical as it sounds, what do you think of it?? you're only supposed to be on it for 10 days. I thought it was interesting. NOT like I would ever do it. It's just the extremes people go through!

It seems like a more extreme version of the single-food diets like juices, shakes, cabbage soup, etc. Nutritionally it's atrocious, but maybe some dieters reach a point where they don't trust themselves to purchase and eat the correct things and--given the US landscape--that's not totally unexpected. i.e. "freedom from choice"

Sounds like the ole Optifast diet of the 80's, lots of people did it including Oprah, just without a feeding tube--if that is what you meant to type. In fact Optifast is still out there as well as other liquid protein type diets, just google. I bet it's not cheap? I lost 100 lbs in 6 months, and my gall bladder unfortunately, doing Optifast back when. And then gained it all back over the next 2-3 years. So that tells you what I think of it.

Is this the feeding tube diet?
I think its insane. Why anyone would want to voluntarily stick a tube down their nose is beyond me.

Its a shame that we are so weight obsessed. We need to make the focus eating for optimal health and how to manage eating for life. This does not teach anyone how to eat better for the long run.

I also think its very irresponsible that a health care professional would promote this.

My husband has said he has the perfect business model for fast effortless weight loss. Induce a patient into a chemical coma and insert a feeding tube. Use muscle stimulation to help reduce muscle loss and when the goal weight is reached wake the person up and send them on their way knowing that they'll be back soon since they never learned how to manage their weight. He jokes of course but I bet there would be people who would take such a drastic, irresponsible path if it were available. Sad really.

I thought the exact same thing. You could get the exact same results by just eating meat and eggs for ten days and save your $1500.

Lol, my dh has often said the same thing, he just wants to be put in a coma and woken up when he's thin!

That does seem like an easy route. Of course I jest. I feel sometimes that I would do anything to lose this weight, but then again I must not have what it is in me to reach goal, again Otherwise I would not still be here trying to re-lose my weight

I was listening to the commentary track for a European movie made in the 1980s, and the lead actor said that he lost weight for the role by checking into a spa where people were given sleeping pills and encouraged to mostly "sleep their weight off." That sounds pretty close to your husband's model.
