I really believe in this WOE!
Every time I get blood work done it is reinforced to me that this WOE really helps to heal my broken body. Although my cholesterol and LDL's remain high (due to a previously undiagnosed thyroid condition and anemia), I have improved my ratio of HDL/LDL from 7.4 to 6.0 despite my thyroid causing those numbers to be poor. My HDL alone has gone from 32 to 47. My triglycerides have gone from 401 to 122. This WOE WORKS!! I don't even think of it as a diet. I think of it as medicine that is saving my life. I think this is why my motivation remains strong; I have a fear of dying young due to my health. So for those of you new to this WOE: have faith! IT WORKS!! My weight loss has been slow due to my thyroid so don't take that as meaning eating this way will be slow for you to lose weight. If anything, find yourself a supportive doctor and get yourself tested and monitored. I will be low carbing for life because it's healthy for me. Can't wait to feel better from thyroid and anemia issues because I want to exercise without heart palpitations and breathlessness.

That's awesome to hear. I had my blood work done yesterday. I hope I have awesome news to share after my appointment next Friday. I just worry that all this hard work to lose weight isn't gonna reflect on my cholesterol number. It runs in both sides of my family. I just hope I'm not one of those people that have to stay on meds for life.

![]() Word, sister. I feel the same every time I really commit. Physically and mentally I get better and better, like there's no end to the improvements. Good on you for not emphasizing the weight loss part...its doing its job whether the scale shows it or not and that's what's really significant here. |

Great post Julie! It started off as a weight loss plan for me but over time, it has become quite apparent that low carbing is a heck of a lot more than that. I remember Cleo posting that it is the virtual fountain of youth and I think that is fairly accurate!!

Great news, Julie. And don't forget that those higher LDL numbers are not not necessarily indicative of anything. Those who have been eating LC for a while probably now have a greaer proportion of "fluffier" LDL molecules, which are not harmful, vs. the dense molecules which are harmful. Gary Taubes talks a lot about this in "Why We Get Fat." I tried to explain this to my NP last time I saw her, but she didn't seem to really know what I was talking about. I'm going to be seeing her for my annual physical in a month, and I'm going to ask this time if she can order not just the standard cholesterol panel, but the extra testing that determines the denser vs fluffier LDL molecules. I'll have to review this info more thoroughly in my book and maybe even bring my book with me this time to show her this time!
