Me! I can't sleep and I get really anxious...almost a paranoid state. I also lose my appetite, but after a day or two I am so tired, I look for "energy" in food and end up eating way too much, all LC of course, but still the carbs stack up.

for me, lipolysis/ ketosis is a blessing.

although even zero carb does not end my food lust per se, it does mitigate it. Getting my glucose to normal levels is THE MOST IMPORTANT advantage for me, and watching my clothes get larger is almost equal to the aforementioned. No one has complained to me or kept their distance owing to ketobreath or ketostench in general. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I love ketosis.

I haven't tested it to be sure- but I think the smell of carbs throws me out of ketosis . I have to stay pretty close to induction levels.

The only thing I like about ketosis is that I become migraine free. Other than that, the appetite control only lasts for a week or so. I don't like the thought that I might stink ( in my opinion stink = bad ). I just don't feel really great when in ketosis or when carbs are very low.

I'm always in ketosis because I only eat green vegie type carbs and I limit them to 30-45 per day, only because I get carb cravings if I go over that.

I can deal with this level of ketosis. On days where I'm not paying attention to my eating and I eat only a salad for my vegies, I'll drop into deep ketosis by the next morning. If I do this for enough days in a row, I get irritable, twitchy and I can't sleep at night. A reminder to start eating my vegies!

I don't like strong ketosis at all; never have. It makes me feel jittery and tired at the same time... and nauseous. Any carb level below 50 tends to get me into "strong" ketosis with all of the symptoms that I find unpleasant.

My body seems to love ketosis. I am very carb sensitive and have to stay at 20-25g, and even at that level it only curbs my appetite--no real suppression as others experience.

However, overall I feel great and sleep well. It's when I have too many carbs that I'm tired, moody, and generally feel unwell.

I have a feeling that being well into ketosis is not a good thing for me. For instance, Thursday night I spent a very fitful, restless night, like many. I was experiencing a prickly or tingly sensation which started at my feet and ankles and radiated throughout my whole body. It was kind of hurtful and extremely unpleasant. I have noticed this sensation before, most often in the feet and ankles and sometimes arms.

Reflecting back, this would happen when I would be eating very few carbs. Thought perhaps there was a link there, so yesterday I upped my carb intake. Don't know if it really was the difference, but last night I slept like a baby, nor did I experience a mild prickly sensation will watching TV in the evening as I would often do.

I do test my BG and didn't have a high reading even after eating 4 oz. of butternut squash last night to help up my carbs. Nor was I hungry later that evening. I did drop 3# last week, but that was due to making adjustments because of being pretty much at a stand still.

So I plan to continue adding a few more carbs and see how my body reacts. I hate that prickly sensation while still needing to shed more weight. 50 more pounds worth.

Curious..... has anyone else experienced this type of feeling?

The only thing that bothers me is the decrease in athletic performance. Unless I'm at a resturant and a large basket of bread is put in front of me. That bothers me some.

Ketosis is like magic for me. It stops cravings, I sleep so much better, I have more energy than I have had in years. I got rid of my back pain, intrusive thoughts of food are gone and my depression has been in remission since I restarted low carb 2.5 yrs ago.

Switching to a keto-adapted state takes time and there can be side effects which are normal but can be resolved easily with drinking 2 cups of broth daily and additional sodium if exercising. Every plan I know of that's purpose is to get you into ketosis talks about this fact and it is important but I am always surprised when people don't seem to know about it....

alex57, sounds like you have restless legs syndrome. I have it, and it definitely gets worse in the early days of ketosis. But, I found that by drinking lots of water and taking vitamin D and a multimineral, I've managed to beat it.

Some other things you can do to manage the symptoms are:

- tire your leg muscles by doing wall squats
- a hot bath
- using a sore muscle rub (like Ice) on your legs
- (weirdly) sitting in an empty bathtub and pressing your legs against the cold enamel
- sex

I've been getting the pricklies too, mostly in my arms and hands. Feels like they're going to sleep. I thought it was because I've been doing a lot more physical work the last few weeks, but now I wonder. I didn't have the pricklies the first time I did Atkins 9 years ago.

Thank you for the suggestions, cjf.

I am taking vitamin D and a multi. The wall squats I'll give a try but do have a bad knee so don't know if I'll be able to. Have showers only so the tub suggestions are out and as for sex .... I'm a widow, an old fashion one, so that's out.

Seriously however, I do appreciate your comments. As I mentioned, I've upped my carbs to 25-30 a day the past 2 days. Try to get some in at every meal but know I'm still in ketosis for appetite is in control, even tho' I've cut my portions down considerable. I weighed in another half pound down this morning. The last 2 evenings and nights have felt much better and slept well.

Thinking back, I seem to recall in the past dealing with this sensation when I was eating mainly protein and very little or no veggies. Being by yourself it is so easy to not fix meals, per se, but just grab a chunk of cooked meat, egg, cheese ..... I have been making an effort correct that habit.

Thx again.

mA I really like it!! When first starting, after about a week of feeling I get a flu feeling for a couple days and then I'm good again. I think I'm carb sensitive too because when I eat a lot of them I'm MOODY, sick, and get cravings that feel like what drug addicts must feel like looking for the next "fix". In ketosis, I have NO cravings which I . My energy level is usually normal to high to where I can exercise once or twice a day, though some days can be like .

Being able to eat and feel satisfied instead of always being hungry and irritable I REALLY enjoy. My mind feels so much more clear and able to focus. Also for some reason my hair and skin has really improved. Making sure I drink enough water and eat enough green veggies (usually spinach with cayenne pepper, garlic, and olive oil or broccoli) keeps me "regular"; which was a problem the first time I tried lc. The weight loss is just INCREDIBLE! I could go on...

The only thing I don't like about it is that I don't get hungry too often and I start worrying about my calories getting too low and my metabolism dropping and all of that. I have to stay conscious to make sure I eat usually every 3 hours. Due to staying so full all the time I have to really work hard to eat more (I've started adding more fats) to keep the calories at a good level. Aside from that, ketosis is now my favorite.

I've been keto-adapted since the beginning of the year, and once I started eating more fat things got really easy. On a day-to-day basis, <50g carbs works best for me, though I'll occasionally go for days on end (especially in the winter) when I eat virtually no carbs at all.

It's when I grossly overindulge myself on my cheat day that things get ugly, but as long as it's only one day it doesn't throw me out of ketosis.

And yeah, I have days when I wish I had a bigger appetite, because I've always loved to eat. I used to be able to eat even if I wasn't hungry! Not any more, though.
