I cut back on work out time and now weight is dropping fast..
I was doing a hour and 30 min of mixed cardio and weight training 7 days a week with out fail and my weight and measurements would not budge I did not understand I was fed up, So about 2 months ago I decided to change things up and I started doing just 30 to 40 min of High-intensity interval training (HIIT) and the weight and inches are falling off finally I am amazed

That is great! Can you explain HIIT? I could google it but I want to hear what your routine is. I have been doing 2 hours of cardio since ....forever lol. I love cardio, and I do a workout tape (JM 30 day shred) every other day (I use 5lb weights). thx.

I am also a fan of HIIT... it's interval training. The purpose is to get your heart rate maxed so you reach anabolic state instead of an aerobic state, which is where the magic happens. It causes you to burn more calories, for longer than a regular workout. It killed me at first but now I actually enjoy it. It works!

Most of the workouts I do include intervals of above or just below threshold, which I am guessing is the anabolic zone. It is incredibly addictive, although sometimes I'm definitely having to convince myself to finish the interval in my mind because of how much it hurts! Feels awesome afterwards and my power on the bike has skyrocketed.

HIIT can be done in many many diffrent ways and times and any cardio will work, running, cycle and any cardio machine. I think Body for life does it for 20 min where you go up in intensity every min for 4 min then drop back down to do it again. The last 5-6 min you keep going up up up!
I have also heard of super 8's where you go all out sprint for 1 min, then take a 1min 30s breather, do this 8 times. Most people do it for 5-20 min I don't even think you can go all out for more then 20 with brief moments. A BBC documentry had people do it 5 min a day twice a week, where you push all out 20 sec, then rest 40 do it 5 times. |

I do HIIT with my trainer 30 minutes 2x a week and "maybe" run with my dogs for about 1/2 hour 2 days a week...the results are amazing given how little time I spend working out now.

Yep, I used to run a lot and did a round of P90x and found it just made me hungrier and I couldn't lose weight. Now, I still workout about 5 days a week but I do more Tracy Anderson/barre style toning and moderate pase walking, do a brief HIIT session once a week and am maintaining a comfortable weight.
The program on You Tube is called "The Truth About Exercise" and the scientists ran tests and showed that you only need to do HIIT for (I thought it was) 3 minutes a week (the intervals only had to last a total of 3 minutes at your maximum effort). It was very interesting. Congrats on your awesome results jaeb!!! ![]() |
