GERD surgery

I am having surgery for GERD and can only have liquids for two weeks. Any suggestions?

Oh..Is this a big surgery? One of the men at work many years ago had the hiatal hernia surgery and it was a big deal.

It depends..You might only be allowed clear liquids, but there is a protein drink that is clear that WLS patients drink. Of course, protein shakes are the best choice to get your extra protein in.

Good luck.

It's actually a incision-less procedure, so it's not a big deal. It does not have to be clear liquids, just liquids. I'm just not crazy about most of the protein shakes so if anybody knows of a good one, that would be helpful. Thanks!

I drink the Slim Fast Low Carb chocolate shakes every morning - 20 gms. of protein and 2 net carbs. I love the flavor - much nicer than the Atkins shakes or any of the others I've tried. Keeps me satisfied for several hours! Good luck with your surgery!

Vodka
Burbon
Scotch

Might not be what your Dr. would recommend, but they'll keep you from stressing about the surgery!

You are a funny guy, Fatcat!!

I was going to suggest the obvious, soup. But there are so many different types you could make. My all time fav is celeriac (celery root) but any # such as broccoli, cauliflower, egg drop and on and on......Good luck with your surgery!

Yesterday, I saw a smoothie recipe that included 1/2 - 1 avocado. I haven't tried it, but if you are counting net carbs, it may be a good way to get more fat. Per USDA, one avocado = 320 calories, 30 g fat, 4 g protein, 17 g carbs - 13 g fiber for 4 net g carbs. The other LC ingredients were almond milk (.6 net g carbs/cup) and a couple tbsp of almond butter (3 net g carbs/tbsp).
