Please share your experience with an Egg/ME fast...
Inspired by reading Jimmy Moore's egg fast blog, I've decided the day after Easter would be a perfect day to try an egg fast (lots of pretty, hard boiled eggs in the fridge!). I'm going to follow his plan fairly closely...six eggs a day and six tablespoons of fat (butter and canola oil mayonnaise), no more than an ounce of cheddar (on my eggs), definitely more water than I drink now (blech) but probably still not as much as I should.
So please share your experiences...did you lose? gain? feel sick? feel good? What about diet soda - I'll cut down but I'm not ready to give up just that one a day (I don't like coffee or tea - need a little something in the morning). I've gotten a little lazy and let five pounds creep back on...hoping this will turn things in the other direction! TIA for sharing and Happy Easter!

BTW, when I input this food on ******, it comes out to approx. 1,059 calories, 85% fat, about 2% carbs and 13% protein...good for my kidney disease.

Well, I learned I was sensitive to eggs, had a major crohn's flare-up that lasted 4 months. LOL. So I lost weight, but it wasn't the good way.
If I do a fat/protein fast for a day or two like that now I do it with pecans, macadamias, some cream cheese, and a home roasted chicken and stay under 1000 calories a day, very low sodium. Works the same way and jump starts ketosis for me.

Hi, Doxie.
I follow Dr. Jan Kwasniewski's guidelines for P:F:C ratios and use Dr. Richard Bernstein's list for what plants to eat. Regarding artificial sweeteners: Both sucralose and phenylalinine give me troubles. I do all right with a little bit of saccharin, but not too much, or too often. My impression of stevia, for me, is that it stimulates more insulin response than saccharin. We all respond differently to artificial sweeteners and caffeine. I don't do well with diet sodas, which could be due to the sodium benzoate, as well as the AS, and other chemicals. Here is an excerpt from that Wikipedia entry: In combination with ascorbic acid (vitamin C, E300), sodium benzoate and potassium benzoate form benzene, a known carcinogen. However, in most beverages that contain both, the benzene levels are below those considered dangerous for consumption.[9] Heat, light and shelf life can affect the rate at which benzene is formed. Professor Peter W. Piper of the University of Sheffield claims that sodium benzoate by itself can damage and inactivate vital parts of DNA in a cell's mitochondria. Mitochondria consume oxygen to generate ATP, the body's energy currency. If they are damaged due to disease, the cell malfunctions and may enter apoptosis. There are a couple of support thread for meat and egg plans. And I started a challenge for meat/fish/eggs and vegs. The link for that is in my signature. Here is one of the M/E threads: Egg/Protein Fast - Resurrection - 2011 and another: Protein (eggs/meat) and fat fast anyone? I thought there was a third thread, but it doesn't come up with the searches, at the moment. Regarding reactions to eggs: I do fine with yolks but can't eat too many whites. I make a batch of hb eggs every few days, and mostly toss the whites. I eat the whites sometimes to get glutathione and whatever other nutrients are in egg whites that can't be had in other foods, but mostly eat yolks. I consider the yolks my main "supplement" each day. Hope this helps a bit. Last edited by Auntie Em; 04-08-2012 at 10:34 AM.. Reason: added quote |

I did the meat and eggs for a week last summer. I initially lost a pound or so, but it didn't stay off. My calories were also about 1000. Weight didn't budge. I'm assuming it's because the calories were too low. If I'd kept it up for a few more weeks, I'm sure I would have lost, but at only 1000 calories a day my body was not going to let go of its fat stores so soon. I couldn't keep to it though, it was exhausting.

Look in the challenges part of the boards for alot of info on this. I do vlc for about a month n the do m&e for 4-6 days or whenever I hit a stall. Usually good for anywhere from 2-5 pounds. And unlike the previous poster, mine doesn't come back. In fact, the last one I did was bc I was bouncing like crazy up n down and it got me over that and below the low and I've maintained that even thru TOM.

I do a 2 or 3 day egg fast occasionally if I'm up a pound or two, in order to get back to where I normally maintain. It always works for me--- 2 days=2 pounds lost. Sometimes I feel great on it, other times I feel blah; don't know why that is, but as long as it works, I'll keep doing it.

works for me.. make sure to get enough fat in there too not just the protein.. I always loose better that way. I go on M&E fast when I hit a stall (not a real one but when the scale isn't going downwards for altleast 2 weeks in a row) I usually loose between 4-7lbs when I do it and only do it for 5 days max. I still drink diet soda while on the M&E fast but I drink more crystal light.

I'm IN!!! I've got a dozen HB eggs sitting here, so perfect time to start. I absolutely LOVE HB eggs/tuna salad. Also going to combine egg/meat fast with JUDDD, so E/M fast will be my up days. I really need to break my month long stall.
