SpectrUm has made a spray (like Pam) using coconut oil. Has anyone tried that?

I saw it at my local grocer...surprising as they rarely go beyond SAD foods. It was with the other oils and sprays. I used it today. Worked well to spray my muffin pan. They came out nice

Hi fellow Pittsburgh Low Carbers!!! I see you are getting VCO at Market Distric and Giant Eagle...what brands do you recommend or use? Does Wal-mart have it too by chance? Nice to have some "neighbors" on here!

Months ago when I joined the low carb boards I got so excited reading about everyone's passion for this stuff.....bought a huge jar from the Vitamin Shop and it made me sick to my stomach. I probably had less than 1T of it. I definitely can't imagine eating this by the spoonfulls but would love to add this to my coffee etc. I know that it would be great for my skin and help me become more "regular"
![]() What is the best way to start adding this into my diet? 1t? I laugh when I read about some of you running out....my jar will probably last me a lifetime at this rate. Thanks! |

Woo hoo!! What area of the Burg??? I get my Nutiva at Sunnybridge in Peters Twp if I'm not getting it through Netrition. Wal Mart DOES carry CO but it is in the vitamin section. |

I think using VCO to fry/scramble eggs is the easiest way to work it into your diet. I think since you're consuming it with food, it's less likely to cause tummy troubles at first.

Agree that starting small is best. I too mixed with foods to start. Built up slowly.
Funny about the running out thing...was just rethinking my emergency supplies....putting CO in there now! That, a bit of tuna and water.......I'll be ok! LOL i see nutrition has it cheaper than I've seen at grocers in area lately. Putting in an order anyway, so will add that to it. Stock up time! 5$ shipping is cheaper than gas now! Giant Eagle at the Waterworks for me if They aren't out of it... |

Do you buy it as a solid or a liquid... I'm confused !
Does it matter if it's a solid ? What brand do you all buy ? Does it matter? |

Tried it in my coffee this morning as I've been following this thread. The taste is NOT unpleasant, but I believe the oil slick will take a bit of getting used to. Definitely filling, tho!!!

I'm lazy, so I just swirled the spoon until I was good to go and just drank it. Gotta say the CO is helping with regularity. Nice little benefit for the morning weigh-in. TMI...sorry.

I've put it in my coffee every morning for years now. Its just a convenient way to consume it for me. Plus, it tends to make me a little hyper so I don't like to cook with it later in the day.

I tried, but I just can't do the CO in coffee thing. Not even with HWC added.
![]() So I take two tablespoons of of MCT oil before having my morning coffee. It doesn't taste like anything, and the first sip of coffee takes care of the gross oily coating left in my mouth. |

OK , yesterday I bought CO. Rubbed it on my hands and feet before bed. Tasted a small amt on a spoon --- did the oil pulling for about 10 minutes.
My teeth were much smoother after sleeping. Gums don't feel as sore. Feet are soft. Didn't taste too bad --- and I don't care for coconut (except coconut rum ) So, now I have it in my 1st cup of coffee....... yummy !! Should I put it in 2nd cup or hold off since I just started it ? Is 1 tsp enough to "get things moving" ? |

Since you are just starting I would prob stay at the 1 tsp. Use that amt for a few days then up it to 2. Take it slowly, unless you are going to be home all day!

Yeah, I will cause I don't go to work until tonight . Also, haven't been potty in 3 days, so kinda would like that effect. But, don't want to overdo and not feel good.
Is that the only thing that will happen ? |

You MAY feel nauseous too if taking too much.

Ohhh how I love coconut oil! I haven't been regular lately either, but just yesterday starting taking a tablespoon of it in my coffee and I'm back to normal! It makes me feel sooooo good I can't believe I ever stopped using coconut oil. Studying for my finals has also been LOADS easier with all this energy. I think it makes me feel more mentally alert.

I'm not noticing any mental alertness. Bummer. I did notice nausea when I had 2 tblsp....1 tblsp in each of my two cups of coffee. Hm.

A couple questions for yall. My CO doesnt seem to stay in a solid state once I bring it home. I put it in the pantry and by the end of the day its a liquid. Is this bad? Should I put it in the fridge? In the coffee how much oil am I wanting to add? I am really just looking for the benefit of being able to go to the bathroom as one poster listed.
