Ketosis tips for a vegan...help please!

Hi everybody, I'm Hannah and this is my first post...
I am vegan and have been eating under 50g carbs (give or take!) since the beginning of January. I want to get into ketosis for a couple of weeks as I am struggling to lose my last 7lbs, no weight loss now for a month.
There are a few foods that are staples of my diet that I am worried will prevent me from getting into ketosis, and would like to hear your experiences with these foods.
The culprits are...
Peanut butter (unsweetened)
Unsweetened chocolate
Pecan nuts, hazelnuts, brazil nuts
Flax and chia seeds
Soy products

Today i have eaten about 3T of pb, a few pecans and macadamias, and about 3T of coconut oil as I have read this helps with ketosis. Any info about coconut oil and ketosis would also be a great help!

Thanks. Hannah

Some people are able to get into ketosis with under 50 carbs a day, but other people find that they need to go lower (20 grams or less) in order to get there. I don't know what to suggest you cut out, because I don't know what you mostly eat - do most of the carbs you eat daily come from the above listed products, or veggies, or somewhere else?

Just off the top of my head (and I'm NO expert), if I had to pick a vegan diet that would attempt to be ketogenic, I would try to eat mostly:
- meat substitute products (vegan burger patties, tofu, seitan, etc)
- cheese substitute products
- green vegetables, but small amounts
- coconut oil bark (google for recipes)
- nut butters (small amounts)

...but the problem is that most of these substitute products have higher carbs than the real thing, and the amounts needed for you to feel satisfied may quickly add up to more than 20g or 30g a day. It's also not a lot of variety. Sorry, Hannah, I hope that helps a little, anyway!

I think the only way I could drop carbs to go into ketosis while still eating vegan would be to drop the amount of food I eat, and maybe supplement the calories with little spoonfuls of coconut oil.

I was going to recommend a product called "Melt" that contains lots of good fats, but it contains butter.

Intermittent Fasting (IF) might be the way to go. I know there is a thread on here about it.

Thank you everybody for your feedback so far. I know vegan and low carbing don't go naturally together!

I have only done a ketogenic diet once before and ate only macadamia nuts (basically the Atkins fat fast, but without the 1000cal daily limit). I hated it but it worked!

Unbelievably I think I am entering ketosis already after eating just coconut oil, pb and nuts today and doing an hour of cardio and some weight training. Seems too good to be true but there's no mistaking that taste in the mouth!

I know pb has some carbs, so when I've had spoonful, I've had a spoonful of coconut oil to try and balance it out - is this the right approach, or am I just adding unnecessary cals this way?

I am hoping if I get myself deep into ketosis I can add back in small portions of soy products without it throwing me out.

It just occurred to me that one method of getting into ketosis is a 24 hour fast - just water.

I've been thinking about that but don't know if it would be safe for me as I work 9 hrs a day in a restaurant and work out about 1.5 hrs in the gym. What do you think?

I would start the fast in near the end of your shift at work and the day just before a day off. I would work out (to help use of glucose stores) but only till a bit tired.
