Fast food?

Does anyone else eat fast food from time to time? My hubby loves fast food, and usually ends up places like mcdonalds. Sometimes I have a couple of the double cheeseburgers (no bread, no ketchup. Only mustard, a slice of pickle and a little onion). Are these bad for the diet?

We only eat fast food if we are on a road trip. The bunless burgers are fine on occasion. I doubt their meat is of any quality so I would limit it but that is a personal preference.

I wondered that... I wonder how much filler is in those things. I better cut those out asap.

Thanks!

Certain fast food restaurants are better than others, or course. McDonalds regular beef patties (not the Angus ones - those have a seasoning that includes sugar) are just plain ground beef, salt and pepper. I often get a plain mcdouble, w/o the cheese (only 'cause I don't really care for American cheese) and just toss the bun. Sometimes I'll get a larger burger w/lettuce, tomato, and mayo, when I have time to sit and eat w/a knife and fork. W/the smaller mcdouble patties, I just use my fingers. They satisfy my hunger for only a buck, and way better than caving and eating something high in carbs.

Oh, forgot to mention: watch the documentary, "Fat Head" if you can. It's on Netflix, Netflix streaming and Hulu, too, I think.

I don't know if you have one where you live, but where I'm at we have a restaurant named Hardee's. They actually have a couple 'low carb burgers' and for breakfast they have a 'low carb bowl'. The burgers are what you would think they are: beef patty with, lettuce, tomato, pickles, some onion, mayo and ketchup. I get it w/ no ketchup still and make it even lower carb. I think they claim it to be 6 net carbs (don't quote me on that). The low carb bowl is the pretty good too, it's got eggs, sausage, bacon and cheese...

If I'm in a pinch for lunch or if I'm out and feel like I've GOT to have something... these aren't bad choices, not the greatest, but not bad. They've saved me a couple times.

Not unless I absolutely have no other option. I was in a cast for a few months so I could not cook my own meals and ended up eating fast food more times than I liked. Luckily I'm in the Atlanta area and wings are big thing here so I can find a mom and pop shop almost anywhere that does hot wings or lemon pepper wings. I'll do that before I do the fast food joints.

Yeah, I know. Stinks, doesn't it? I love the flavor, but out of curiosity (and cause this is what I do these days!) I looked up the ingredients of stuff on the McDonalds web site:

100% Angus Beef Patty:
100% Angus beef.
Prepared with Grill Seasoning (salt, black pepper) and Angus Burger Seasoning: Salt, sugar, onion powder, natural (animal, plant and botanical source) and artificial flavors, spice, maltodextrin, autolyzed yeast extract, dried beef broth, dextrose, garlic powder, worcestershire sauce powder [distilled vinegar, molasses, corn syrup, salt, caramel color, garlic powder, sugar, spices, tamarind, natural flavor (fruit source)], spice extractives, beef fat, caramel color, annatto and turmeric (color).

100% Beef Patty:
100% pure USDA inspected beef; no fillers, no extenders. Prepared with grill seasoning (salt, black pepper).

Ever since, I stick w/the good ol' 100% beef patties w/just the salt & pepper.

I will occasionally eat bunless burgers from fast food places, but I try to only do it when I'm either travelling or REALLY craving junky food.

Almost every Thursday evening after my official weigh in I eat fast food.
Either a bunless chicken sandwish from BK (the breaded kind) or 2 JBC from Wendy's, extra mayo- no buns.

I probably have a brighter view of restaurant food than most--too many fresh kitchen disasters in memory.

The way I see it, the nutritional value of a whole food doesn't change just because a teenager in an apron is handing it to you. Most restaurants have very detailed websites--with some careful research you can find a lot of tasty and healthy choices.

We have fast food rarely but from time to time. If your not sure what to order nutritional are available online or in store if you ask, it's also posted in store. I try to look online if possible to plan my meal. If I have a choice it would be Carls jr. low carb 6 dollar burger no cheese no ketchup with a side salad.

The only thing I really ever liked about fast food were the buns and fries...so, now there's nothing I like there. I just can't bring myself to do a bun-less burger...I'm all about the bun. If I had to eat fast food now, I'd probably get a salad.

I do burgers from fast food joints multiple times a week.

I tend to stick with a Baconator from Wendys. Or the Low carb options from Hardees.

At my Hardee's, they ask if I want to make it a combo--add a drink & french fries! They used to not offer salads instead of fries but I think they do now.

We order pizza (and wings) every other week or so. Or chinese (no rice). And occasionally I splurge on Popeye's fried chicken, and fit the carbs into my plan. But other than that, we usually only do fast food when we're traveling.

I avoid fast food as much as possible, mostly because it is horrible. For the fast food that is good, just be careful of the sodium content. There is a lot of sodium used in fast food to add flavor and it can cause water retention. Just my 2 cents.
