Peanuts?

Are the dry roasted still in the shell peanuts allowed on dr a? I've loaned my book out. They sure are good but I hope I'm not "cheating"

Probably a single serving will not do much harm but be wary that they are a legume.

I love peanuts and peanut butter. Alas, they also may be inflammatory

Well, I lost weight this morning so I guess it was okay. Lol. I are prolly 30-50 nuts (with the shell, so, 2 actual peanuts)

Back in 2006 when I went from 183# to 126# (started 3/1 and got to goal 8/1) I would put some peanuts in a small ramikin (bowl) and would eat them nightly. They didn't stop my weight loss. I'd have dry roasted, regular and sometimes cashews.

How have you maintained all these years after your weight loss? Your stats are awesome! Do you mind posting a typical menu?
Thanks,
Sandy

Sandy I have NOT maintained my weight loss. It all came crashing down on me when my husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2008 - was put on a feeding tube/ chemo/radiation, lost his hearing and had to have his left eyelid sewed shut. He passed away from a ruptured abdominal aneurysm in 2009. While I was rushing him to all his appointments and of course he couldn't eat via mouth anymore - I had to just grab whatever I could at the fast food places because I had no time to do anything for myself. I hate this excuse but in reality things were just horrible.

Then onto the grief train and I'm finally finding my way back. I am determined to do it again but maybe this time set my ultimate goal somewhere in the 130's.

When I was successful - I pretty much ate 0-20 carbs for a few months and when I got closer to goal I started adding veggies back into the mix. Eggs/bacon/meat/salads/cheese/SF jello w/whipping cream, etc.

that is way too many peanuts! 10 peanuts have 2.75 grams carbs net. so 30 would be 8.25 and 40 would be 11 grams. If you are going for 20 grams a day, that has to cover all your food, so unless you are eating almost nothing but straight unprocessed meat, I doubt you can stay that low eating that many peanuts.

some people do fine with a higher carb count, but just don't say it's Atkins unless you have gotten to the bean rung and upped your carbs slowly after doing induction by the book, please.

good luck in any case!

Ravenrose, I have been out of induction for a while now and peanuts have alot of fiber to pair with all those carbs. According to my lose it app 60 peanuts have 12.9 carbs and 4.8 g fiber. Idk why u would assume I'm not doin Atkins bc I ate some peanuts?

Cheryl, My heart goes out to you on the loss of your husband. I just read your post about him on 2/13/12. I was so moved, I decided to send you my first post.

I've been saturating myself in LC books and websites for 3 weeks - I'm a know-it-all lowcarber now. After 40 years in low-fat purgatory, I said a prayer and all the lights went on in my head. I ascended into the bliss of Atkinsville. Haven't done LC since his '72 book came out. (Read it; ate fat; threw up; threw book in trash so no one else would be deceived.) Well, he said "unlimited" and I believed him. You can't say "unlimited" to a foodie.

Fast forward: Read your entire thread where you helped Bella lose her 60 lbs. Loved it all!!!!! Sooooo - last night I printed out the diet your doctor gave you and started this morning. It's about the same as '72 Atkins.

I did the NEW Atkins for the last 2 weeks, but it's way too many carbs for me. No ketosis, no loss, too much food, calories, etc. Had to do the Fast Fast to lose 4 lbs finally. I realize that 20 carbs are too high for me. To lose, I need to do the old '72 Atkins of 5ish carbs and work my way up the ladder when I get to goal.

I found that last entry of yours about your husband, because I was looking for your latest post to see how you're doing after helping Bella back in 2006.

I identified with your journey for lots of reasons: Same age, same present weight and amount to lose; I too walk about 2 miles a day; have to eat less than 20 carbs to lose, and like your doctor said, may have to be at 20-30 for life.

I also printed out your day to day weight loss log and will see if my loss will be similar to yours in the next 6 months. I have your doctor's diet on my kitchen sink and will eat only what's on it for the next 6 months. I just call it Cheryl's Doctor's Diet.

I am highly motivated, disciplined and love, love, love vvlcarbing and how it makes me feel. It's pretty easy for me. I was so in torture for 40 years on low-fat, WW, J.Craig diets to keep my weight even at 180ish on 1,200 calories a day. Funny, I even got down to 126 and maintained in for 5 minutes. I blew up to 140 and maintained that for 5 years, but had to run 5 miles a day and eat 1,100 calories low-fat - so hard!!! When I ate 1,500 calories like doctors and books said I should, I would go up 20, 30 lbs.

I weigh in at TOPS every Thursday. Will let you know how I do once a week. Please do write back if you feel too.

Happy low-carbing, and take really, really good care of yourself. You deserve it after what you've been through. And from your posts, I see that you've helped so, so many people.

Love, Heather

technically peanuts & cashews are legumes.

they are higher in carbs than nuts per se. See how a few will sit with you. You can always adjust up or down. I love them in the shells. But this is one treat I must keep on the back burner for a while, like fruit. And that is a shame, because i work for peanuts!!! Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI
