Trader Joe's favorites?
Heading to Trader Joe's today and I'm on induction. Does anyone have any favorites that I should keep an eye out for? I love this store but first time visiting since starting eating low carb. TIA

Oh I love love love love TJ's. So much that I will drive 30 minutes just to go food shopping! Now that i'm LC, I have to say stay away from the packaged foods in the middle of the freezer isle. Love all that stuff, but it's not LC at all. Stick to the outside isle, get some chicken, fish, cheese (they have GREAT cheeses!) They have a Lime Chicken burger that is good (but check the ingredients - may not be LC). I have yet to go to TJ's since starting (started this week and just got back from vacation - which means no time to shop - will go this weekend). Have fun!

They have organic, uncured, grass fed, beef hot dogs that are great. No added sugar.
The TJ"s mayo is low carb with no added sugar. One of their pepperoni's has no sugar added also. Later on you could try the full fat plain Greek yogurt. It is wonderful! Oh and I almost forgot they have the best heavy whipping cream! |

I did not care for their greek yogurt, and the nutrition info had me worried.
SF choc covered almonds SF milf chocolate bars up by the register (plain or to use as choc chips) greek feta dressing is AWESOME!!! And is my main reason for going I love their coffee!! they do carry a spaghetti sauce or two low in carbs havent tried it yet- cocoa powder pretty low in carbs. Coconut oil is cheap I should have got the hot dogs last time I was there thanks for the tip- |

The Marinara sauce is good! Very good!
Olive oil is cheap and good. Coconut oil is only $5.99 Unsweetened Coconut milk. It's delicious, only 1 Carb too! 1000 day old Gouda and Dubliner Irish cheddar cheese. Their cheese selection is fabulous! Their Cocoa powder is wonderful Their Seltzer water is even better than Poland Spring Bags of pre-washed salads. It lasts a crazy long time! |

Trader Joe's is the most reasonable place that I have found to buy Almond Flour for 1 minute muffins. I also love their Almond Milk and Coconut milk that comes in cartons (check for carb count, as there are several) Someone on here uses one of TJ's breads...but I don't remember which bread it was, it had lots of fiber and a fairly low carb count. Their sugar free chocolate bars are wonderful, but dangerous for me so I buy them rarely. Their nut selection is awesome. Their meats are high quality, of organic nature, often grass fed beef. I love Trader Joe's.....

Oh I love TJs- I counted down the days until it opened in my town, and my 5-yr old calls it "Mom's store". Several of the cashiers know he and I by face. LOL!
- Unbelievable wine selection (I know, not really plan friendly, but it needs to be said) - The dark chocolate covered almonds are actually lower in carb count than the sf and delicious - Dark chocolate Nibs - they are up by the counter in little containers. DC-covered cocoa beans. Perfect for just a little something sweet. - All their bacon products, which I already ranted about on another thread - Lowest carb-count chicken sausages that I have found. Lots of flavors, too. They have one that is apple and something else, that is really sweet and only 2 carbs for one. Other good flavors too! - Turkey meatballs -Rock shrimp (tastes like lobster! Delish!!) - Best almond butter ever - Almond meal - Flavored sparkling water - Best PB ever - Everything else in this thread I love TJs! |

Induction-friendly: I like their bagged, pre-washed greens. I'm not a lettuce fan. But I steam their bagged kale or mixed "Southern Greens", and eat it hot or cold with olive oil and cider vinegar. One bag makes about four 1.5 c servings. Their frozen (non-organic) spinach is less expensive than the other supermarkets near me. They sell one-pound packages of 80/20 ground beef for about the same price per pound as the Safeway near me charges for the three-pound logs, without the hassle of having to divide them up into smaller units (I live alone).
When you're a little higher up the carb ladder: their cottage cheese, almond milk, and nuts are a little cheaper than at Safeway, and the nuts are distinctly fresher. Their "Ruby Red Chai" (spiced roobois tea bags) is less expensive than Celestial Seasonings Safari Spice.

I went there yesterday and bought a jar of their brand, three cheese pasta sauce. I browned up some Italian sausage and dumped in the pasta sauce. The sauce was 4 net carbs per 1/2 cup. It was yummy!

If we don't grow it ourselves or get it from our neighbors, we buy it from TJs. I love that store for all its grass-fed meat, great nuts, great cheeses, and wonderful gluten-free meatballs and chemical-free green beans. Their fridge salad dressings are great, and both low-carb and low-cal (try the parmesan ranch and cilantro). The eggplant purees are great. The marinated, grilled veggies are great. Organic coffees at decent prices. Good selection of organic dairy. Cheap almond meal.
