Bacon w/ Nitrates?

So I read DANDR, and in it he said to eat nitrate-free bacon. Considering that trying to find NF bacon is like trying to find a needle in a haystack, (i've only found one brand - Applegate farms - and it's like +$4 a pack! ) does anyone here ignore that and eat bacon w/ nitrates? if so, how often?

I just had 6 slices of bacon (and 2 eggs) for breakfast. I never checked to see if it had nitrates and didn't care.

Hahaha. My original plan was to have 4 slices with my eggs but 2 of them just threw themselves into the frying pan. Really. It was bacon-icide.

When I eat bacon I usually eat about 4-6 pieces. If I am also making turkey bacon I might have less. But I love bacon. Bacon is meat candy!

You'll get a lot more nitrates from some processed sandwich meats. I eat bacon three or four times a week. You can do some things to lesson some of the dangers. Don't fry your bacon at very high temperatures. I generally put the bacon on low heat and use a bacon press. Takes a couple of minutes longer, but the lower temperatures reduce possible chemical reactions on the metal surface. (Yes, I said possible. Some of the claimed pathways are not 100% proven to occur in a frying pan.)

I ate 8 slices of bacon last night for a "snack". I buy what is on sale and low sodium. That's my only requirements of bacon.

I usually eat 2-4 slices, but I've also eaten 8-12 slices often without problems. Never get tired of bacon.

i do not make bacon at home.

i have it on weekends with eggs or on a cheeseburger. i am certain the diners do not use nitrate free bacon. U will probably have to go to a healthfood store for that. We all know anything with a health claim made for it is gonna cost u extra. One thing I must add. Nitrates are still better than day rates. Could not resist, but y'all know me by now. I think the nitrate problem has been shown by some sources to be less of a problem than originally thought.

I do like the one you mentioned, AppleGate Farms, because it comes from humanely raised pork.

I eat bacon most days but not too much of it, just because it is low carb doesn't mean it can't cause problems because of the calorie issue. This becomes more of a factor at/near goal.

I'm no longer concerned about nitrates in my food. This article debunks the myths:

Wow I wish I had some bacon right now.

Trader Joes has all things delicious in bacon options. Their turkey bacon is the only kind I like, their TJ brand nitrate-free bacon is food of the gods, and they also sell packages of pieces and ends that are so fantastic for scrambles and salads. Mmmmm.

Oh, and I am in the 6ish category. But have been known to have more...

I've been buying Hormel Uncured Bacon. It's easy to find at the store because it comes in a brown cardboard package. Really good bacon!

If you have a Costco membership they sell Coleman Naturals Uncured Nitrate/Nitrite free bacon for a decent price.
