Ways to stay patient?

I have a terrible problem with being patient in the weightloss department. I end up yo-yoing and trying all sorts of diets rather than sticking to one and need tips and advice on how to stay patient!?

Its hard to be patient but finding a way of eating that words for you and your lifestyle is the key. With me personally I jumped around forever. I knew that low carb works for me..i did it six years ago before my two sons were born and lost weight and kept it off. for the past 4 years I have went from this diet to that diet and then it just clicked one day that I knew I was 100% ready and committed to dropping this darn weight. I am going on week three with no temptations at all. Not sure what clicked but I'm sure glad it did.

Since i haven't yet made up my mind....

I think a plan where youa re not frustrated in general with your food choices and exercise plan and stuff, is probably key since you are likely to stick with it as long as the losses keep coming and then from habit when you stall for that time before the whooshes.

If you enjoy your meals and have enough freedom in your life, you can keep doing anything forever.

I think it's when we start to feel deprived: deprived of flavor, deprived of calories/energy, deprived of convenience, deprived of satisfying losses,...that we start looking elsewhere instead of staying the course.

I generally low carbed for years mostly cause I liked it and it helped me maintain my weight and health. When I needed quick weight loss I chose a quicker plan. Not that Low carb didn't work, but it works at it's own rate. I had gained very quickly and wanted to get it off just as quickly. So I changed to a plan that promised faster losses But when I low carbed my weigh went up slowly from life and down slowly from diet and exercise ( the wee bit I did) and I was happy with that so it was easy to stick to.

Of course I am of the opinion that changing for a specific purpose is just fine. Obviously a weigh loss diet is different from a maintenance diet, but knowing what I want from it is half the battle of sticking with it.

I think that you have to understand your plan
Trust or believe that it will work
And like and feel good about what you can eat on the plan

If you have doubts about if a part of the plan you will look for something else that you think will be better. Do reaserch.

I am the most impatient person in the world. When I started LC I couldnt wait for the first weeks to pass but time went soooo slowly. I decided to weigh myself every day so that every day is a reason for celebration. I could not wait a whole week to weigh myself. Also, I read up on LC a lot!

Furthermore, try and shift your focus away from food and more to things you enjoy doing. Time will pass by before you know it!

It's important that you learn how to be patient in your weight loss journey so that you will know what truly works for YOUR body, and what doesn't. Jumping from plan to plan constantly is one of the WORST things you can do and you will be getting nowhere and will likely screw up your metabolism far worse.

Concentrate on one day at a time. Literally. Think of your plan as a one-day goal, a one-day mindset. Wake up that morning and make a written and/or mental list of what you hope to achieve with your goals that day: your diet/menu, your water consumption, your exercise.

At the end of the day do your checklist. How did you score?

Journal your score and your feelings of accomplishment as often as you can, daily if possible. Focus on the positive things. Focus on the compliments you received from others. Focus on the fact that your jeans are a tiny bit looser today than yesterday, or last week.

If you take your game one day at a time, you will win.
It's not about being perfect every day,
but it IS about being persistent -- one day at a time

This may sound harsh--and I don't mean it to be--but I can't sympathize with your lack of 'patience.' My own loss was no more than a pound a week, often less, and I experienced a long stall during the process as well.

I was never impatient--but rejoiced with every pound lost because I knew it was adding to my health. Most experts say that it's best to lose slowly, and I can testify to that because during the process I learned a lot about myself and my food issues--as well as strategies for dealing with them.

And if you think weight loss is frustrating, I can assure you that maintenance is also a challenge.

So if you're serious about personal weight management, forget about 'time' and focus each day on being faithful to your plan. It works best one day at a time.

What helped me was the saying "time was going to pass anyway".

Also, don't just obsess about it....do other things, plan a trip, do hobbies etc

Yes, time will pass so might as well make it count on your side. I was impatient and discouraged in the beginning but I stuck with it. I stay on plan and don't worry about the weight loss I think about my health. If your on plan you'll get there.

Well your first problem is you are looking for a quick fix and there are none. ALL diets take time so your best bet is to find an eating plan you can stick with for life and one that your body actually likes.

Ive had some physical problems recently and the medication interfered with weightloss, I developed a paranoia that the WOE would not work anymore for me. My impatience popped up because I have been worried every time I try to get back on the LC wagon that it is all in vain and it wont work. I like quick fixes as much as the next person, but what drives me nuts is not knowing what WOEs, what meds will or wont work for me. I have been battling with chronic daily headache/migraines for the last year, a headache 24/7. Ive just been through a lot without getting any answers... Now Im on Depakote, which is known to cause weightgain and its a bummer having to be on all the meds Im on. I just really hope that if I stay on track that this WOE will in fact work for me again...

Yeah, it stinks when you Know you meds cause weight gain, but you don't know how much effect the meds vs the diet is having.
