WOE: One high carb meal a day

Gave up protein shakes and....

I have lost a good bit of weight...7-8 lbs in under two weeks....granted, i have been vigilant in weighing, measuring, eating clean as i ever have, etc....i read an article in a 'fitness' mag that 'shakes' are as 'unclean' and as processed a meal as there is; and how liquid calories are often much less satiating than food...anyway, i am the furthest thing from a sanctimonious 'you must eat clean' kind of guy, but it seems to have worked well for me. i imagine the elimination dairy, less overall protein, more fat, are contributing factors as well....

dont get me wrong, i miss my shakes dearly. i had one a day for almost the entire journey. i intend to go back to them as perhaps a post workout supplement...but for now, i think im just going to continue to roll with the current plan...for all of you still loving your shakes...CHEERS!!..toss one back for me....chocolate and peanut butter please! best, ap

I don't understand how they can be unclean if you make it yourself. I have lost 57 lbs. and counting having a coconut shake every morning. I don't do dairy so its cocnut milk, rice protein powder (organic and with stevia), cinnamon, sometimes walnut butter and sometimes a small amount of blueberries. I might add organic cocoa powder unsweetened or a chai spice mix I make myself. My cholestrol panel is great and so is my VAP bloodwork. Sometimes I need more fat(hence the nut butter) and sometimes less. I adjust accordingly.

I have a protein smoothie almost everyday. It hasn't been a problem but I don't use much of that powder stuff. 1/2 scoop is all I use.

I'm thinking about cutting out the shakes...I think it becomes a habit for me and I look forward to them toooooo much! I've been stuck at this weight forever so had to examine my intake, and I think if I cut out the shakes things will start shakin'!!
Like everything...we're all different.

I gave them up for a few days but couldnt keep my calories up so I have been doing them some days. But I haven't losxt any "virgin" weight in 4-5 weeks. Now, that has sort of been the patteren for me anyway so not sure if the shakes are affecting me or not.

I have a TERRIBLE time figuring out how what I eat and how the exercise I do affects me.

Congrats to you A.P. for discovering what works for you!! Excellent work!

I added shakes to my menu 1 month ago. I use whey protein, almond milk, a raw egg and ice. I would have thought that I would gain as this is more food added to my usual menu (although I no longer have an evening snack of tea or broth or something of that nature). But they don't really compare in nutrient density.

Making short out of long - no change in weight. I went back to no shake (reducing my menu) for a week and no change in weight. This morning I am back to the morning shake. I predict 'no change in weight'.

Well, on the bright side, I haven't gained. There is a lot to be said in that!!!

I can't face food in the morning, also don't have any time. I love my shakes. and if it impedes my weight loss...oh well. As long as it's coming off, I can be patient. I look forward to each shake, it also helps me swallow my supplements....

I used to drink the Muscle Milk protein shakes with 22 grams of protein until they changed the formula & now it only has 20 grams of protein. I should have had stock in the company as I drank one a day for almost 3 years.

I then started using the EAS protein powder & could get 5 lbs of it at Sam's for $28, it only had 3 grams of carbs & 23 grams of protein per scoop. But then Sam's changed to a different protein powder that has 9 grams of carbs per scoop, which is too much for me. I did purchase some Whey powder at Walmart that only has 4 grams of carbs per scoop & 26 grams of protein. I use 8 oz of 2% milk needing the fat in my diet.

I went off protein powder all together for a month but I really feel the protein shakes help me lose the weight so I went back on them. I would really like to make my own though.

I'll toss one back for you tomorrow morning! I still love my shakes and have one most days. I appreciate your post because if I start to stall, I'll know to look at the shakes as a possible culprit. So far, I lose better with them than without them. I did stop adding things like peanut butter, milk, cream, etc. because my shakes were becoming pretty high in calories. I also switched to a grass-fed whey that only has whey protein, vanilla flavor and stevia as the ingredients. I don't know if grass fed makes any difference when it comes to whey but I decided I'd try it and see.

Tossed back a peanut butter/chocolate protein shake today. With actual peanut butter and cocoa powder added to my unflavored about time whey. Was really really tasty.
