Newbie - Stomach aches :(
Hi ALL, Im a newbie here from the UK
I was on a low carb (atkins) diet for 4-5 months. I was basically on induction all that time, as i wanted the quickest yet safest fat burn as well as had alot to lose I was taking L-Glutamine, EFAs, Vitamins, Minerals, Probiotics and enzymes. I was losing on average 3 pound a week and this was without exercise I also was drinking I think around 2-3litres of water a day At the time I was weighing 224pounds and wanted to get to 168pounds for my male 5'7.5 height Around the final month, month 4 or 5, i ran out of the Essential fatty acid/omega 3,6,9 oil, the enzyme and the probiotic. In this final month i got crazy severe tummy pains, that lasted all day and night. I had no idea why. I have now been given the all clear by the docs, they cant find anything wrong. I have even had a camera put inside me and yet nothing was found. The various theories i have I can put here, both from my own thinking and from the docs, but i rather not influence anyones thoughts just yet.... can anybody here shed some light as to why this happened to me and how to prevent it, as i out of fear got back to comfort eating and have put on even more than when i started, i look and feel terribly fat now ![]() Please help this newbie to this forum thank you James from the UK |

I have no experience with or knowledge of vitamins so I cannot really help you there.
The only logical explanation I might have is the most obvious one: you've changed something in the final month and that is what caused you to have cramps... I hope there's someone out there that could help you better! |

I would say that it may of started with running out of the probiotic and enzymes. They aid in digestion. Also once you started comfort eating, you may of started eating foods you have an intolerance to and didn't realize it. Once you stopped eating it for a long time your body can get really upset when you eat it again.
I found out that I am allergic to wheat. When I ingest even a tiny amount I get terrible stomach aches like you are describing. I hope you can figure out what is causing the trouble. |

I wasnt sure if actually I had become dependent on the probiotics and enzymes, since as you noticed it all happened once these things finished, but the manufacturer assured me there is nothing in them to create any form of dependancy. I only began the comfort eating when after the pains started, not prior and only because my family were so worried and concerned (and had never heard of anything around low-carb) that they said "..there you see its that fad diet...go and eat the potatoes etc" I knew it couldnt have been that but was in so much pain, discomfort and confusion that i had no choice. I know my overweight is less due to addiction and more due to sheer convenience eating, but atkins gave me better control and focus on what i need to plan to shop for etc. What i forgot to mention was that I also had a healthy professional protein shake for breakfast on MOST mornings or omlettes etc otherwise, that was appropriate for the afternoon/evening meals, if i needed to make up a meal, as i was eating 5 times a day. yes im sorry i dont know if its important but i ate every 2.5-3 hours to also speed up metabolism Any more thoughts please? |
