I would start with a teaspoon for the first day and see how you go, if that is okay then slowly up it to a teaspoon each meal, if still okay then slowly increase it to a tablespoon or so for each meal. I am still in the early stages...

I started cooking with it first--frying my morning eggs. And when oil was needed in other foods I was preparing, I substitute CO if at all possible. Only recently have I started adding it to my morning coffee--about 2 tsps in addition to the other uses.

Sorry, I'm new. What's the purpose of the coconut oil? I have seen it mentioned several times.

Thanks!

The Purpose? Well, that's a hard question to answer cause there is no one Purpose that fits everyone equally.

Coconut oil is Fully Saturated, therefore it is less likely to go rancid or to break down in the heat of cooking.

Coconut oil is a saturated fat, the body uses saturated fats to make many biological enzymes and componenents like cell walls and hormones like cholesterol to keep us healthy

Coconut oil is 60%Medium Chain Tryglicerides. MCT's are absorbed without needing digestion, and are burned for energy as quickly as carbohydraes are, and yet do not raise blood sugar because, being an oil, it does not require insulin for transport, nor does it require bile for breakdown and transport

Coconut Oil's MCT's make it thermogenic, meaning that it burns quickly and easily telling your body it has plenty of available fuel and therefore to increase energy expenditure to burn it.

Coconut Oil contains Lauric Acid which is used by the body to create and manage the immune system. Coconut oil is shown to be antagonistic to many microbes, bacteria, fungi and viruses.

Coconut oil contains the same type of fatty acid that your body produces on the skins surface as a microbial barrier. Putting Coconut oil on your skin after a show or bath replenishes that barrier, because the body can convert it on the surface immediately rather than having to reproduce more oil and pump it out to the skins surface

Coconut oil's MCT are more ketogenic than long chain oils found in other vegetable and in animal fats. It produces ketones faster than they, and this has been used to help epiletics control their seizures.

Coconut oil can successfully replace almost all your "vegetable" cooking oils without any detriment to taste and with advantages to health overall.

Coconut oil makes the best Popcorn "butter"

Because it doesn't oxidize easily, I'd want my body and cells to be full of coconut oil so my skin cells don't oxidize easily from sun and exposure. You are based on what you eat.

Wow Metga! Thanks! I shall certainly pick some up. I'm almost afraid to ask if you have any brand/type preference. I will be going to Walmart, Target, and possibly Whole Foods this weekend.

I just got a 32 oz bottle of MCT oil so I have all three types; Virgin, Refined and Ultra Refined!

I just bought a jar of CO yesterday and I am starting at 1 teaspoon per day. In a few more days I will have 2, wait a few days and then up to 3.

3 teaspoons= 1 tablespoon and that is how much I want to take for a time until I decide whether or not I should have more then a tablespoon a day.

Slow and steady wins the race....so I've heard.

That is a good plan. I know that when I was up to 3.5 TBL per day, I didn't get sick at all. And that was when I was a preschool teacher. I was wiping noses and butts all day long!!!! Not one little cold. You will find that with CO more is better

Right now I have a tablespoon in the AM and then 1 in the PM.
So far so good....
The only thing different that is going on is that my mind is "crazy busy" at night when I am trying to sleep. I think/dream about EVERYTHING you can think of.

I keep reading about Oil of Oregeno. Not sure if that is the next step...
anyone have any ideas?

Yes, everything I have been reading about CO says just that. I'm hoping it will help with colds and whatnot. I don't get sick often but I would sure like to avoid any illness if possible.

I had the weirdest dream I ever had last night about a friend who recently passed away but I don't think my measley 1 teaspoon of CO did that.

If I dream like that again tonight then I might change my opinion.

I do feel slightly energetic and I just started TOM and I am always tired when that happens so this little bit of energy is welcome.

2 tablespoons a day. I am envious.
