Coconut Oil Poll :)

I know I saw a thread a long time ago about coconut oil - but of course can't find that now!

So.

#1 - do you use it?
#2 - how much do you use?
#3 - do you feel it has made a difference?
#4 - what kind/brand do you use?

Thanks!

It makes me sick to my stomach, so none. I wish I could tolerate it though, it has a lot of listed health benefits!

#1 - do you use it?
Yes.

#2 - how much do you use?
1-2 TBSP/day

#3 - do you feel it has made a difference?
* I'm not sure. It makes me full! I eat it on the way out the door if I need a snack but don't have one.
* I also use it on my skin. It helps it look younger--firmer--and helps w/ dry skin.
* I also use it as makeup remover.

#4 - what kind/brand do you use?
Garden of Live/Living Foods organic Extra Virgin

I cook with it instead of processed oils. I use a little for my hair, skin, etc. I also will put it in my protein shakes (protein powder, coconut milk, and coconut oil).

I eat 1T every morning before my workout. Sometimes with cocoa, or with powdered peanuts or a little honey. Gives me energy for my workout. Sometimes I cook with it. I don't know if I have noticed any difference. I mainly use it to get some good fats in my diet cuz I don't get enuf fat usually.

I just recently purchased some and I am trying it in just about everything. I put it in my protein shake, I cooked some cabbage and mushroom...added a 1 TBS, made a stirfry with vegs and added 1 TBS and I made a mug cake and replace 1 TBS of the oil with the coconut oil. So far I enjoy the flavor with everything I have added it to.
I have only been using it for about four days so I can't say I feel anything?..but it does seem to have a lot of healthy benefits so...!!
I purchased mine from a local health store - extra virgin- certified organic Coconut Oil.

I use it occasionally in a recipe, but don't use it everyday or even every week. I use coconut milk and unsweetened coconut flakes more regularly. My husbands uses it everyday to cook his scrambled eggs in. We buy Spectrum Organic Unrefined Organic Coconut Oil. I don't use it enough to notice any of the purported benefits.

I cook with it and add a Tbsp to my coffee in the morning (this is an acquired taste--it was a little odd swing the oil pooled an the top of the coffee).

I'm choosing it for the supposed health benefits, especially that it MIGHT help prevent Alzheimer's. So far I can't point to any immediate benefits.

I get whatever virgin, expeller pressed organic oil is least expensive at the store--thinking of mail order to save but it goes against my grain--I prefer to buy local.

Sometimes, will use more after having tried coconut bark
Usually I use a tablespoon (or fork?)
Not sure if it makes a difference, but it is a healthy source of fat and if you have some imagination it's like an almond joy
Not sure on brand, just some virgin CO I got at Hy-Vee.

I use it but only a few times a week or less. I put it in my protein shakes, use it to make one minute muffins and occasionally will cook with it. I've also made coconut bark with it a few times. I use Tropical Traditions and Nutiva. I've found that eating more good fat has helped me with weight loss and energy.

my skin is way softer - and I can't ever remember having skin this soft! I also use it as moisturiser and it got rid of persistant fungal infections on my feet!

I use coconut oil. I use it for frying/sauteeing things (stir fries, eggs, onions, etc.), and also in coconut bark. I'd say I use it in cooking 3-4 times a week (usually 1 tbsp.) and in coconut bark once or twice a week (4 tbsp. per recipe). I use Nutiva brand. I haven't noticed any difference since I've been using CO.

I have been using CO for about two years. Those of you who use it as a moisturizer may be thrilled at what it does to your skin over time. My time-tortured expanding pores have all but vanished. In the last month, I have been adding a drop of castor oil to CO and crows feet and lines on my forehead that have been there for years are softening.

I put it on cuts and scrapes and inflamed bug-bites. My perception is they usually heal faster.

I rub it on my skin before and after I spend time in the sun. I am very fair naturally and last summer was the first time since I was 16 that I have actually had a suntan (instead of a sun burn).

I used to eat about 4 to 6 tb a day. Now, on ETFG, since I have added a lot of fat to my diet, I have dropped back on the CO. Still average about 2 tb/day. Most of the CO eaten is absorbed into the bloodstream while in the stomach. Supposedly the healing that happens when CO combines with sebum on the skin also happen internally. I know that when I first started eating it I went through a detox. I figure keeping that going has to be good for me.

Since reading another thread here, I try to us CO to oil-pull twice a day. I am prone to allergies (sinus inflammation) and that seems to be calming down said congestion.

Chuckle, I used the wrong nickname - I should have gotten CO into the name.

#1 - do you use it?
Yes

#2 - how much do you use?
I make the Coconut Oil Bark
This is the recipe I've been following:
4T coconut oil
1 1/2T dark cocoa powder
12-15 drops Stevia
1 t vanilla extract, sometimes almond, sometimes orange
Mix well and freeze.

I nibble the above throughout the day, sometimes only half of the above per day.

#3 - do you feel it has made a difference?
I'll find out next month when I have bloodwork drawn, and see how it effects my cholesterol
Other than that, no difference for me, it replaces craving sugary chocolate bars, and sweets, keeps me satisfied

#4 - what kind/brand do you use?
LuAnna Brand from Walmart mostly, on occasion Spectrum Brand.

Have you tried different brands? I found the NOW coconut oil to taste soapy. I threw it away after one taste. The Nutiva brand is fine.

Al, No I haven't tried other kinds...I tried the Now brand and had a bad reaction to it. Perhaps I should give it another go with a different brand?

Wish this forum had an actual poll post to track responses.

Nonetheless...
#1 - do you use it?

Yes

#2 - how much do you use?

In cooking 80% of the time, and 1-2 tbsp 3x or more a week

#3 - do you feel it has made a difference?

A difference in hunger? Yes. In energy? Yes. In weight loss? Who knows if it's that or the new WOE.

#4 - what kind/brand do you use?

LoAnna for cooking (refined). Nutiva (unrefined) to eat by the spoonful. Also have some unrefined I purchased from an Indian foods store that I cook in on occasion. I've begun purchasing the unrefined online to beat cost.

#3 - do you feel it has made a difference?
* I'm not sure. But I also use it on my skin as a lotion. (no chemicals being absorbed into the skin - Yay!) Seems to tone the skin a bit as I'm losing weight.
* Great for rough skin patches.
* Good for dogs! (I give 1 tsp to my dogs a few times a week) Good for their skin and digestion.
* I also use it as makeup remover.
* I also brush my teeth with it sometimes.

#4 - what kind/brand do you use?
Gold Label Virgin Coconut Oil by Tropical Traditions (online)

#2 - how much do you use? 1-2 tablespoons a few times a week in coffee or coconut bark
#3 - do you feel it has made a difference? Oh yes it has helped with my weight loss by speeding up my metabolism and topically has helped to cure my skin rashes

Thanks!
Keep in mind that there is a time of adjustment your body will go through. Start off really slow with it to avoid nausea like a teaspoon every other day and increase from there. I did get the nausea in the first week and swore it off but it was so good I went back to it again and I was fine with it. My understanding it there is a yeast die off in your body which creates the nausea.

No. I don't like the taste of coconut so I've never tried it.

I do use palm oil. I make chocolate bark with 1/2 palm oil & half butter. I make it about once a week. Never used it in anything else but cooking desserts.

I have noticed that when I eat the chocolate bark, I usually loose the following day. I buy Spectrum Organic Palm Oil.

I've read here about CO that does not have a taste. I'll probably get some of it when the palm oil is gone.

#1 - do you use it? Yes I put a tsp in my coffee in the morning and cook with it. I also will put it in protein shakes.

#2 - how much do you use? A jar lasts quite a long time.
#3 - do you feel it has made a difference? Yes - not for weight loss but my skin looks so much better.
#4 - what kind/brand do you use? Nutiva - although I did use the Spectrum because I couldn't find the Nutiva locally.

I also give a little tiny bit (dip my finger) to my 9.5 lb Maltese almost daily. He gets these little itchy spots on his skin. He LOVES it and it has made a HUGE difference in his skin and coat.

yes

#2 - how much do you use?

Guessing a tbsp or two per day. I don't eat it plain but cook I use it anytime I cook something in a skillet like eggs, some veggies, some meats.

#3 - do you feel it has made a difference?

I'm not sure if it's the coconut oil or my general healthy WOE, but I am losing weight steadily. I also have the soft skin that other people are describing although I don't apply it topically. I've noticed I seem to have more energy after meals when I eat CO.

#4 - what kind/brand do you use?

I use Spectrum Organic. I think it's $9.99 at our healthy grocery store, so not to pricey.

I have it every morning in my protein shake. I ran out last week, and forgot to pick it up over the weekend. I've been starving this week because of the lack of it and thinking evil foodie thoughts.

I ran out and got some today....My skin does seem to be less dry this year.

I use it but don't have a set amount I use everyday. Mostly use it as an oil sub in baking LC, and I have one of my LC baked goods every morning.

I use the brand made by Whole Foods - I believe it's called 123 Organic, or something like that.

Our Walmart store sells the Spectrum Organic around $6. They keep it next to the LouAnna Brand Coconut Oil.
