They don't really have a taste on their own. Some people don't care for the texture, it can be a bit like chewing rubber bands lol.
Here's a good place to start:
Everything Shiratake...

I like the texture myself, for some application. It's great with stir fries and stuff like that, but don't expect it to be exactly like pasta for applications like spaghetti. The texture is kind of like egg noodles or mushrooms and is slippery - instead of having your teeth sink into it like a pasta, the noodles shear and break.

If I were to look for them in the store, what section would they most likely be in?

I've just found that my Winn Dixie is selling them. They were in with the cold portion of the health foods. I didn't buy any yet. I don't know if I will be able to get past the smell of them that people talk about.

I use to HATE these noodles until I did what was suggested: Rinse REALLY well for about 5 minutes in cold water, boil them for 30 minutes and then pan fry in a dry pan until they start to look dry.

This ^^^^^ has made all the difference in the world to me on the texture of these noodles.

Very doable and great in lots of Asian dishes!

Just as a note, skinny dip noodles are NOT the same as Miracle Noodles or other shirataki noodles. Skinny Dip noodles are certified organic and very simple: purified water, glucomannan powder and calcium. That's it! They are pricier than other brands, but taste better in my opinion. They also have mock rice, which is better to be than the mock cauliflower.

Miracle Noodles also only have water, glucomannan, and calcium.

Also FYI: you can immediately eliminate the "fishy" smell on all these noodles simply by squeezing lemon juice on them.

You can save yourself a lot of money by buying shiritake noodles at your local Asian market or a grocery store that caters to an Asian population. About half the price as those online with no shipping costs. Same stuff.
