Crystal Light?

Diet soda (pop) is getting a really bad rap right now because of the sweeteners being processed by the body as if it's sugar. So what does this mean for Crystal Light? I've gotten off diet soda and back onto water (or club soda) with some lemon or lime juice, but I have to admit I enjoy some Crystal Light too.

I think it's the same sad story for crystal light and any product that contains AS unfortunately.

Keep enjoying it then. If you haven't determined that it's hurting your progress, then why fret? Some people have lost extraordinary amounts of pounds and inches and improved their health manyfolds while drinking diet sodas and crystal light. You might be one of them.

If you take a week off from it and find you lose better or feel better, then ditch it. If you don't see any difference, then enjoy it!

I don't think this is accurate. There is some small evidence that one of the many a.s. may be detected as 'sweet' in the gut but that is all and what that means is unclear.

Aspartame is the most common sweetener found in diet pop and is not in question. Some folks have other problems but not the one you suggest. Crystal lite is sweetened with aspartame and has no issues for many (if not most). It really is a question of whether or not you want to ingest unnatural chemicals.

Personally, I chose the 'devil that I don't know over the devil that I do (sugar).

Diet Shastas at Homeland are sweetened with Splenda and not AS and they are diet sodas.... love them... all different flavors!!!!

i believe both are a YMMV issue.

I have never stalled as a consequence of either product. but i imagine some folks DO have a sensitivity to the sweeteners or other things that go in there. When i do Plateau, it is because of no food in particular, but because my body and scale are having a mega-joke at the expense of my patience. when i do Plateau, I go as close to paleo as possible(for me) until i start seeing an improvement in the numbers. Crystal Light is sweetened with Aspartame......

I am enjoying blueberry iced tea sweetened with stevia and lemon!

Personally I steer clear of aspartame because it is an excitotoxin. I am more concerned about the health of my brain than whether or not it impedes weightloss.

I like that statement!!!

I can only avoid what I know is there. I can't spend my life being afraid to move for avoidance of what I don't know exists.

I use all the sweeteners that don't taste bad or make me feel sick. That's my barometer. Same for food. If I feel bad, i don't eat it, if I feel good, it's okay for now... until it makes me feel bad( if it ever does) and then it's gone. Simple enough for me.

Well I did lose the first time and drank some diet pop, so I'll try again.

Fear of what aspartame is doing to my physiology notwithstanding.

Hi Nick…
How did you arrive at that conclusion?

I have drunk tons of diet soda and Crystal lite, and assure you my body isn't processing them as it does real sugar.

Crystal light is the same as diet soda. But it effects different people differently.

I, for one, have 0 problems with either, and drink a lot of diet soda/drinks. (I also get at least 1 gallon of water in a day though).

I didn't, it's something I've been hearing. Or at least it causes an insulin reaction similar to sugar.

For me, AS is one of the 2 sweeteners I seemed to be able to use without getting an aweful, terrible, in bed for the rest of the day headache. Now, I DO NOT drink crystal lite of other drink mixes often. Not even once a month. But if I get a craving for something a little sweet and have some crystal lite mixed in my water or yogurt, I'm not gonna freak out about it. I'm just gonna have it and enjoy.
I don't drink soda. Even before LCing I only had water and green tea. But, I hear there is a soda made with stevia (the other sweetener I can consume). I think they are called Zevia or something similar? I'll be looking for these next time I go to the health food store, but this is an hour drive for me so I haven't been able to get there yet.

Zevia Soda is alright. It doesn't have the sodium of traditional soda.
the flavors are hit and miss. I personally can't handle the cola flavors , but I like the citrus flavors but only at room temp. chilled I dont like any of them. My favorite Zevia is Lemon flavor at a cool room temp.

I think different people react differently. I'm a strong advocate of knowing what your own body does in reaction to various sweeteners (and foods).

I tested whether I reacted to liquid Splenda and liquid Stevia by having plain tea with one of them in it, and testing my blood sugar before, then every 15-20 minutes after consumption for two hours. I actually don't have a reaction to either one of them.

I don't react to aspartame-sweetened sodas or crystal light. I do, however, have some reaction to malitol, so I watch out for it.

True data removes guesswork and "he said, she said, they said."

From my own experience I can't drink anything that used Ace-K and a lot of the diet drinks use it in conjunction with aspartame. Diet coke does not have Ace-K and I can drink it with no problems but I do limit my consumption.

I also drink Zevia's and really like them but they are much more expensive.

Yea I drink tons of diet sodas and lose fine. I have 3 a day, sometime more.

But I do drink tons of water also...I can imagine that they could be an issue if I wasnt drinking plenty of water. Water is the key

I can drink AS beverages without apparent problems. However, a couple of years ago while maintaining I tried ditching all AS products for about eight months. What was amazing is that I had far, far less cravings for anything at all sweet after a few months avoiding AS. If the trade-off between giving up AS beverages and having few to no sweet cravings is a factor for you, it's something to consider.

The only AS I have now is 3 drops EZSweetz a day in my one Teeccino in the morning. I used to drink a lot of coffee with AS and Crystal Light all day. Have given it up for water and club soda. Feel much better and am losing now after long stall. Coincidence? Who knows. I do know I thought I could never give it up, but I did. Don't miss it all.

I have been eating low carb for about 6yrs and have used sweetnlow, splenda, andx aspartame all that time without any negative side effects. I use sweetnlow and splenda in my coffee and use crystal lite and hawaiian punch water packets a lot and I drink 1 or 2 diet sodas per day. I'm healthier than I have ever been. It dependson the person but personally I wouldn't worry about it. I do drink a lot of water too along with coffee and diet soda.

you can always get a fruit tea (starbucks has a mango passionfrut one that is good) and make it, cool it, then combine it with some bubbly water. it's really good.

I wish I liked Crystal Light but it's too strong, but if I dilute it it's flavor is not strong enough, I have to add more lemon or whatever flavor to make it tasty and not saccharine. I like the idea of combining it with club soda though. A fizzy drink.
