Best strategy the day after a "low carb binge"

The day after a low carb treat binge... What do you do? DO you just go right back to normal or do you go extra strict? Just meat and eggs? What?

Yesterday after not eating much all day I was starving. (My fault). For dinner I had taco salad. Still starving, ate almost a whole bag of pork rinds. Still starving.. ate about 3 servings of low carb cheesecake. Also ate another serving of taco salad.

Everything was low carb.. but with that cheesecake and pork rinds.. I am wayyy up there in calories. Should I do anything or just be pleased that it wasn't a high carb binge?

I have had several failure days over the last 8 months and I never do anything special to recover. I just get right back on plan and move on. So far, so good.

If I try to do something "special" the next day, i.e. restrict in some way, I tend to end up in weeks and then months of binge episodes. I have found the best way to deal with it, is just tio do as Danny does, just get right back on - no recriminations, or anything. just know the scale will take 1-2 weeks to show that the water weight is gone .. in the end, if you chart weightloss, you will find that the slope of weightloss remains the same despite an "overeating" blip of a single day ...

i stay as close to ZERO carb as possible for the next few days,

and drink gallons of plain water, and make sure i am getting in my vitamins, and doing what exercise i can. Whether that is the right approach or not, it makes me feel that i have taken the initiative in damage control. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

Yep Lots of water and feel GOOD that you are staying on plan. Also use this experience as a reminder that you NEED to eat through out the day or Look what happens. Best of luck!!

Thank you all so much. I will just get right back on track. And yes... skipping meals is not a good thing. Lesson learned.

I try to reward myself following a binge but stay on the diet, rewarding myself with a low carb indulgence like seafood or a steak. Then I am reminded that this diet is not about deprivation, it is about selective indulgences. I try to do 20 carbs or less for a week following a binge. BTW, I would not consider what you did off plan, you did not eat lots of carbs after all!

As long as you keep your carbs low, don't worry about calories. If you keep your carbs low you'll be ok.

I eat super clean (no extra salt, mostly meat and eggs), drink a lot of liquids, and eat only something little at 2 meals and then 1 bigger meal and I keep my food consumption way down for a few days.

YES, you CAN over eat LC foods and that is what my problem seems to be over and over again lately!!

I just make sure to have plenty of low carb veggies, especially salad, the next day. But I don't *cut* anything that is LC.

I wouldn't change a thing if I did a low-carb binge, just eat when I felt like it. Now after a HIGH carb binge (something I'm experimenting with right now)..... I don't change a thing either, just eat typical low-carb

This was true for me a decade ago. It's not anymore. I have to watch my calories (and also dairy).

OP, I'd also add fat, probably. Maybe protein. The reason I would consider it is because it's often a bio-chemical reason I craved in the first place. Fat and protein tend to satiate me and keep my appetite under control.

better to try to steer gently back into the lane by going right back to your plan.

otherwise you start overcompensating and weaving all over the road and might end in the ditch. just sayin' LOL

best of luck.

Easy - I do the Attack Phase of the Dukan Diet (I'm impatient). After a few days of that, I go back to my normal eating.

This is what I am learning to do as well. The more I beat myself up or restrict the next day the longer it takes me to get back on track.
