Anyone have a certain (non foody) place that makes them hungry/crave carbs?
I wondered this this morning! I work a few days a week in my friends second hand shop, and the minute I walk in it is like "PING!..HUNGRY..CARBS!!"
I wouldnt be hungry if I was at home...this is just a deep down urge to EAT! I have tried to work out why...I think it may be because when I started I was eating practically nothing but sweet high carb...dry cereal, sweets n biscuits, things I could bring in and eat (no cooker, micro, or anything here). Now I bring in a LC salad and some cheese strings etc..but the urge for carbs is SO strong here! ANother place I feel this carb urge is the train station....cos I always took a break from what was a lifelime low fat high carb diet when I wnet on holiday. And the place I started eating was the train! Be interesting to here if anyone else has this....I feel like one of Pavlov's dogs! ![]()

Interesting question!! One obvious place for me is the movie theater. But since having our baby a YEAR ago we haven't been to one, so that solved that, lol! The other place is my classroom (which I am in for at least 8 hours a day- eek!!!). I have a "treat bin" for special prizes for the kids. In recent years I have put nothing but Dum-Dums (the tiny lollipops) into the bin. They don't appeal to me and I tried to cut down on the sweets for my class anyway. They seem to like fancy pencils and erasers just as much! I also have good snacks in my desk drawer at all times. But, for some reason still, the stress of certain days gets to me and I wish I could eat a big Butterfinger candy bar or a bag of Peanut M&M's. I wonder if I will always fight that urge!

Way too much time on my hands!
|
when i am in an ON-PLAN frame of mind...
i have no problem staring down off-plan eats. For example, when i am at my "low carb bakery" i am having my coffee and low carb treat, staring at the cannolis, and all the incredibly delicious pastries and cookies is noproblem. It is look looking at art in a museum. However, i did tell the young lady there, that if the world comes to an end, that i've got dibs on the bottom shelf. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

i know what you mean...especially watching others eat them...i don't necessarily think i crave carbs as much as i just crave food. it doesnt even have to taste that good. i just want food.

Not a particular place per se, but I can go the entire winter not wanting ice cream at all, but as soon as the weather turns and the sun comes out, I crave ice cream at least once a week. Especially, if I take the kids to the park or zoo, etc. I plan on allowing it every couple weeks this summer.

Mine is particular television shows. As soon as the show comes on, I think about eating no matter what time it comes on, because I typically used to eat lunch while it was on during the day. Just the theme music starting gets me thinking about food!

Mine is when I open a book. I've snacked on crunchies or sweets when I've read since I began reading for pleasure in my mid teens. Now I pour myself a glass of Zevia and sip on it as I enjoy my book.

Everytime I ride my motorcycle I get the urge to stop at a Dairy Queen. It's only for a couple seconds though and I have never let it make me stop.

I avoid the Olive Garden. Pasta was one of my favorite things. When they had the never-ending pasta bowl, it wasn't uncommon that I'd put away four bowls. It's just best to keep away even though I'm sure they have a few low-carb options.

Movie theater for me too! For now, I will just stay away from there. POPCORN is one thing I completely miss and going to the movies makes me crave it more than anything!

smell of freshly brewing coffee walking past a coffee shop triggers thoughts of coffee & pastry (don't know why, because we rarely ever stopped at a coffee shop for coffee and pastry before. So it's just a weird image/craving I get.)
Also going past bakery area in store if they're baking fresh bread...have to speed by that smell! Again, I never was in the habit of buying freshly baked bread (and never baked it myself, either) so don't know why the smell triggers cravings for something I didn't used to have? Yes, me too, on movie theaters, too...have learned to speed past the concession stands too. And that's silly, because the last couple of times I had theater popcorn I thought it was awful (way too salty and the "butter" was some sort of oily fake stuff. Yuck.) Sitting in airports waiting for departure makes me hungry...seems like we have to get there so early and then it's hurry up & wait...and wait. Boredom probably triggers the cravings, but yeah, find myself wanting a bag of M & Ms, or chips...munchy stuff.

![]() ![]() As for airports, it's the one place where I have ZERO appetite. My stomach gets all in knots before the flight not because of flying but going through security and all those people. (I get panic attacks in large crowds.) As soon as I am on the plane and settled in, I get hungry! ![]() |

Logging onto MMORPGS (like WoW and Lotro) give me the major munchies! I can do anything else at the computer and I'm fine...but play an MMO and I get the urge to eat mindlessly. (I logged onto Lotro (since its free) last night and it was the first time all week that I've experienced cravings.

I guess my non-foody place to get "inappropriate eating ideas" (not claiming cravings!) would be driving around in my car. I just said to a friend the other day that i feel sort of a sense of loss because i don't stop off to buy food anymore. A trip of multiple errands today finds me going directly from one place to the next. I used to stop off all the time all over the place- Dunkin Donuts, 7-11, McD's, Chik-fil-A- you name it. Everywhere had some item that i "loved" and would regularly stop off to indulge. Now driving around in my car i see the signs and sometimes feel a tug to turn in, but i don't go there. I recognize that those feelings are just part of the habit part of eating that i am still breaking in my mind- and have nothing to do with hunger. I had a lot of years practice always eating the wrong things over and over again. I recognize that some of that "training" i did to myself is in the process of re-training or unlearning. Awareness is the key. It feels good to have the control that LC gives me. I remember in the not so distant past when i just couldn't seem to tell myself no to those fries or muchkins or whatever, and would just cave to the urges. Now i say to myself: low carb eating- "I'm lovin' it"!
