When I'm in the grocery store, I find myself...

staring into the grocery carts of everyone else I'm always so curious to see if anyone else around me at the store is LC. IDK why I do this I just DO! When I'm not eating right, or on another "diet" I don't care, but even 7 years ago when I started this (been back and forth since) I always find myself doing this.

Also, when I have to buy products that are NOT LC for DH and DD, it makes me feel like I want to say to ppl "these are not mine, ony this is mine" anyone else do these things?

If only I could clean out all the food in the house and start over and have it ALL only be LC it would make my life easier, but my 10 year old would kill me.

Hi Chrystal…

I don't look at what others buy - but you better believe our cart draws more than a few stares! And sometimes remarks when they go by (and we are not deaf people!)

They can't figure out why only 2 people have 10 - 2 liter bottles of Fresca (mine), 2 - 24 packs of diet Pepsi (wife's) and 3 pounds of cabbage, 4 heads of lettuce, 10 pounds of hamburger, 3 pounds of peanuts, green & red peppers, 2 roasted chickens, 5 - 3 pound packs of thick bacon (we freeze them), a gallon of Mayo, 5 dozen eggs, and 5 pounds of cheese!

Add in the 3 pounds of flax seed, and 2 pounds sunflower seeds, and it's not exactly health food, nor junk food.

One guy thought we ran a restaurant or food cart!

I am guilty of looking at others carts, and also, when I go out to eat, I notice what the people around me are eating! I'm usually shopping and eating out alone, so it gives me something to "focus" on, cause I know I'm not "just nosey"! I have never noticed anyone else eating strickly LC when eating out. That's probably a good thing...I might try to strike up a conversation otherwise.

I have always watched other people's carts and meals when going out. I know I was raised with unhealthy eating habits, and used to watch to see what or how others ate.

Now it is habit, but LC has nothing to do with it

And someday you'll be slim and trim, and they'll still be looking at the bacon and steaks and cheese in your cart and be wondering, "How can she eat that stuff and still be skinny? Lucky metabolism, I guess..."

I find myself doing this too. I catch myself wanting to hug some and say, I can help you, but never do of course. I wouldn't have wanted someone to do that when I was heavier.

My cart is full of a strange mix too. GF and LC items. Most probably see the GF and assume it is for that problem. I do get stares though, especially when loading up on radishes, etc. Most probably wonder what is that woman doing with all of them! No one has asked yet though. Then, and only then, will I explain the LC radish (or whatever) thing and let them check out the results

I do the family shopping, and buy things that are high carb for them, but since I have been strictly on point, I don't buy my "favorite snacks" any more, things that could tempt me. And I also don't want people to think that the non-LC items are mine either!

I've always done that. I'm am nosey. I use to wonder how people could eat all that "healthy" cardboard type food like rice cakes, air dried popcorn, low fat crap and still be happy with it.
When DH was still smoking, a lady saw him outside the store smoking and came over to him in the grocery store to tell him how those cigarettes were going to kill him. He told me, "I was going to look in her cart and tell her how unhealthy all that junk food was for her, to get back at her and all she had was meat, veggies and cheese"...Haha..she must have been a low carber!

I'll admit I'm always checking other people stuff when it's in front of me. lol

It's funny, 3 month ago I was loading up my low-fat yoghurts, cereals and rice cakes onto the belt while looking at other peoples full fat products thinking "how fattening".

Now I'm unloading my cart with double heavy cream, pork ribs and whole egg mayo while watching others with their 99% fat free products thinking "I'm so glad I no longer follow that WOE". lol

I'm still coming to grips with the fact that I NEVER HAVE TO LIVE ON A DIET OF RICE CAKES, BRAN AND FAT-FREE YOGHURT AGAIN. YAY!

I looooove to watch other people's groceries come down the conveyor belt thing. So while the man or woman at the register is scanning my stuff, my eyes are totally on the items being unloaded behind me. I probably should pay more attention to my items being scanned (but I do check my receipt later, ha ha).

Hi gg…
When my wife and I go shopping, I'm so busy chatting with her (as long as she's not shopping for clothing) that I'm really focused on her, not on what's going on around me.

We always have the list on the iPad and just know the stores we shop at well enough to know the route we need to take, and unless we're really in a hurry (usually not), then we just like to stroll and chat.

For us it's almost like a date more than shopping. We really enjoy strolling and chatting, no matter where it is. And we aren't there for others.

As a photographer with a passion for portraiture, I'd be more interested in the people and their families than what's in their carts.

I tend to not really pay attention to others much at the grocery store unless greeting someone or vice versa as I'm kinda "in the zone" to get in and out of there ASAP because I hate shopping lol, also, I only shop the perimeter of the grocery store and avoid all the aisles.

This post reminded me of the first week I was back on plan in late February. I was feeling in control and happy in the grocery store! I noticed this woman walking toward the register with a box of chocolate doughnuts and ice cream in her cart. She was about 50 pounds heavier than me and looked so unhappy. I just wanted to talk to her so badly. Great posts - I'm glad I'm not the only one checking out everyone else's carts

Yes, I have this urge too. Not that I want to say you are WRONG...or I know more than you....or some other nasty...I just see the sadness and want to help them become happier with themselves. What really gets me is in the checkout and they have junk in the cart and are eyeballing the mags with the lose (insert huge amount here) pounds in (insert short period of time).

Headed to the store now. Will try to keep my feelings to myself...unless asked! I want a T Shirt : Body by LCFs or something like that My Netrition shirt will have to do for now

I shop at our local food co-op which is pretty small - and honestly, I don't think I check out the carts. Lots of vegans and vegetarians so I know their carts will be as boring as mine. Fortunately, the store does have a small meat section and huge cheese section. People shop with mini carts, there are a few aisles, so everyone is somewhat limited.

But, when I do go to mainstream grocery stores - more than the carbs, I reallly notice the processed food and excessive packaging. Big carts, bright lighting, longer lines - it's a more hyper environment rather than the leisurely stroll where people step aside for others.

I have found that I spend less at the food co-op, even though prices are more expensive because the range of options are also more limited. Granted, I take home less, but I am sure I still have more food in the house than Lindsey and I could eat in a month if we got very creative (excluding short term perishable of Milk).

I felt the exact same way. I even had a twinge of it today when I bought cans of icing f/DHs GF cake. (Don't make homemade bc that is too tempting to eat myself:blush

I too wished I could have let them know who they were for. Remember, most wouldn't even get the healthy LC food as being good. It gets better. KUTGW

I honestly don't think I would have ever judged the contents of anyone's carts as poor or fattening choices if I just saw low carb foods in the basket. That's all the foods I grew up on, minus only a few, so to me it all just seems normal.

I mean, regardless of whether the shopper was fat or skinny, I'd judge their choice of margarine over butter. I'd probably only judge their shopping skills harshly if their carts held almost all higher carb choices with almost nothing I considered healthful low carb food.
