Gary Taubes is my new hero

I bought his book "why we are fat" on Kindle a couple of days ago, and finished it last night...yes, I read like I was going through a box of rosemary/oil olive Triscuits!! (I'm gonna miss those...)

His writing about of the long and not-so-illustrious history of weight gain/loss, and the link between malnutrition with obesity left my jaw on the floor. The medical information was invaluable, even though a bit of a slog, since I never did get that degree in medicine...

Having been through what I've been through with my thyroid, nobody had to convince me that the whole "calories in/calories out" model of weight loss is complete and total crud, but it's nice to have the studies (and history) supporting the hormonal side of the house.

Complete recommend!!

You can watch several of Gary's lectures on Jimmy Moore's blog-- livin la vida low carb. He's done lots of interviews with Gary and has posted several of his lectures on the blog. You can probably go there and search for Taubes and find them. He really is amazing.

I believe Gary Taubes has saved lives with Good Calories/Bad Calories and now WWGF - quite literally. I am a big fan.

He started me on my L/C journey. I was browsing for low fat stuff on Amazon..just typed in "fat" to see what came up..and one of the things was his book! When I saw the reviews I bought it...and since then have spent a fortune of anamzon, buying other books on the subject, inc Dr Atkins.

I remember a day when we got the ear of other low carb gurus - was is Atkins himself - or someone from the Atkins foundation? I can't remember but it was back in about 2000. It would be great to have G.T. answer questions and clarify points.

It depends - Good Calories/Bad Calories is like a text book and Why We Get Fat is a condensed and easier read. If you like text books, go for GC/BC.

He pretty much just talked about the same things he covered in GCBC but obviously in an abbreviated form. It was a lot of fun though and he signed anyones books afterward and answered any questions that people had. It was inspiring and good reinforcement to stay on this WOE.

I will be eternally grateful for Gary Taubes for sharing what he has learned. He is an excellent writer, and obviously on a mission to show folks what is really happening. I finished his book, and wanted to tell everyone that I knew that had a weight problem. I still do! However, I am finding that the information is hard for others to hear...I guess it is just something that they have to find for themselves.... Change is hard I guess.... But I thank him from the bottom of my heart!!

He finally nailed it with that book. GCBC had all the data, but didn't summarize it at the start, and it was too long.

WWGF is like a well-laid out court case against carbs.
