Shakes for breakfast

Since I am getting a little sick of eggs every morning, I thought I would try the Atkins shakes for breakfast. I love the Chocolate Delight, tastes like a Yoo Hoo choc drink I used to get when I was younger. Anyway, does this fill anybody up or are you adding something to it? I was satisfied at first, but I think I am still hungry! Should I grab something else or is that gonna pack on more weight or add too much protein to my diet? You would think after all this time I would know this! Thanks for your time!
By the way, they are on sale at some Walmarts, 4.99 with 2 free in the pack!

I like the Atkins shakes and use them when I travel. I am too cheap to use them all the time and usually make my own in the blender with cream or almond milk, an egg, instant coffee, ice and irish cream DaVinci's syrup.

I make mine with unsweetened almond milk, protein powder (choc, vanilla, or both), ice.....then I might add other ingredients depending on my taste buds for the day, this might include any of the following or a combination: espresso, peanut butter, coconut, berries (strawberries, blueberries, blackberries)

I mix it up.

I make my own too using almond milk and protein powder, yogurt and flax then add different things depending on my tastes that day. I found just an atkins shake didn't fill me up for some reason but my homemade ones do. And they are much better.

I would think they would be sufficient for Breakfast. Push thru for a few days and see how it goes.

Thanks everybody, I like mixing things up a bit, helps me not feel like I'm just repeating the same old meals everyday. I'll have to try mixing up my own!

I love the chocolate Atkins shakes, I am going to buy the vanilla and the strawberry. I was just curious if anybody else feels like they still need to eat something with it or if it fills you up. I kinda need something else with it, but I don't want to over do it either. thanks for the info!

Keep a snack handy, just in case.
Its different for everyone. Some people can go till lunch without being hungry while others feel hungry not long after. The pre-made shakes like Atkins never did it for me. It actually made me crave stuff. YMMV.

Thanks for the all the shake recipes ideas

I can't seem to find almond milk that isn't HC tho? I see it here a lot and I've look everywhere...usually around 10 carbs listed per serving. I can't remember what the label said a serving was tho, I gave up on it a while ago.

You need to get the UNSWEETENED almond milk.
The regular almond milk has sugar.

You can find it locally (usually) or you can order from netrition
Here is a link and it also includes a picture of how it looks

Blue Diamond Almond Breeze Unsweetened

Thanks Monkee - I'll keep my eyes peeled for that. I've never seen the unsweetened kind here. And I'm in Canada so I can't order from Netrition. But I see I can find it online!!

You can also make your own almond milk. Its pretty simple. If you do a quick search you'll pull up some good threads with instructions and different variations.

I used to make my own before but I got a bit lazy about it since I wasn't drinking it fast enough.

Homemade is better though as it does not have any extra added ingredients.

I use the silk unsweetened almond milk. It has 0 net carbs. 1 carb, 1 fibre= 0 net carbs. i think thats how it works.

Also I drink the atkins shake, but mostly for a snack. but you could had a string cheese if you need a little more.

Throw a little peanut butter or coconut oil in the blender with the shake plus some ice. It bulks it up a little bit. Just a thought...
personally, I have always been one of those who needs to chew, not drink, any meal. Just a mental thing i suppose...

omg i love breakfast shakes.. I love to drink my breakfast so much more then eating breakfast..
For years I drank "egg creams" you could find 1000s of recepies for these here on lcf.
I also drink alot of protein drinks with protein powder. and almond milk, hwc and water, or coconut milk. I mix in my instant coffee, ice, sometimes a flavoring or like cinnamon etc.. and im ready to go.. I ususally drink around 8am and keeps me going till atleast 1pm..
I also have the EAS low carb shakes that are ready to drink in my fridge. Hubby and I are keeping them for our diaper bag so if we go out and just need a snack its a quick fix.. With about 100 or so cals in them they are by far not a meal replacement, JUST A SNACK!
I dont buy the atkins shakes to often (have not for years because i think that there are far better ready to drink shakes out there) but if they are low cal like its cousins, then i'd say you need to have more then just that like someone else suggested..
like maybe that and 2 hard boiled eggs, or a string cheese, hand full of almonds etc..
Lean body makes a great low carb shake too

I tend to avoid meal replacement shakes. Even if they are low-carb, they aren't really food and they tend to encourage my sweet tooth.

Agree with the above. I love egg, cream and sweetener. Then you can add a dash of s/f syrup, whatever your pleasing. Waaaay more flavorable than powdered protein (though I keep that on hand just in case).

I have an egg cream every morning for breakfast. They are so ridiculously simple to make but SO good! I use 2 eggs, 1 tbsp HWC, a splash of vanilla, a tsp of instant coffee, a few drop of liquid splenda and a dash of cinnamon and water. Sometimes I use a Splenda hazelnut sweetener instead of the liquid splenda. It fills me up and keeps me going until late afternoon.

Superstore and Country Grocer both carry Almond Breeze sugar free vanilla or chocolate. The vanilla is 2 carbs, 1 fiber per cup. I live on Vancouver Island so hopefully you have similar stores near you.
