BBQ sauce

Lately I have such a craving for BBQ ribs. Can anyone recommend a *truly* low carb, good tasting BBQ sauce. I saw Netrition has a Walden's BBQ sauce that claims to have no carbs, but I can't find a nutrition label to see whether they're deducting fiber carbs. Also, would like to have some feedback on taste before I spend the money. Thanks!

The Walden's is awful IMHO. The Jok n Al brand is decent, has 3 carbs per 2 tablespoons. Don't have experience with any other brands.

We have two - the Smokin' Joe Jones Barbeque and Dippin' Sauce and the Jok n Al Barbecue Sauce

The Smokin' Joe has 2 total carbs - 0 fiber <1g of sugar for 2 tablespoons
The Jok n Al has 3 total carbs - 0 fiber 2g of sugar for 2 tablespoons

I like the Jok n Al better (of course I do, it has more sugar) it tastes a little like Arby's sauce. Smokin' Joe has a very strong smoke flavor, but DH loves it!

I haven't tried the Walden Farms. We had a bad experience with someone else by Walden Farms, and now I just can't bring myself to buy anything by them.

Walden Farms is *gack* and I've heard people say they like it better than Jokin Al's, so I can't even imagine how vile it must be. (No offense to anyone who likes these).

I haven't made this recipe yet, but it has gotten good reviews: http://www.lowcarbfriends.com/bbs/lo...er-tasted.html

So far, I've just converted the BBQ sauce recipe in my Joy of Cooking book, and it was much better than the commercial varieties, including the acclaimed but no longer available, KC Masterpiece low calorie blend.

I think that's a pretty good sauce recipe too. You can always make adjustments to it as to the sweetness or heat or 'tang' depending on your personal preferences.

Do NOT by Walden's - it is aweful. Here is a simple and very good bbq sauce that I found from another low-carber friend. I use it all the time.:

3/4 cup sugar-free ketchup
1/2 tsp. Splenda (more or less to taste)
1/2 tsp. mustard
1/2 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/4 tsp. onion powder
A dash or two cayenne powder or Tabasco

Note: Liquid smoke (about 1/4 tsp.) is a nice addition if you have it on hand.

I want to chime in and say that the sauce referenced in the above post (bloodsugar101's recipe) is THE BEST bbq sauce I have ever eaten. Even my non-lowcarbing son thinks so! Make it--you will NOT regret it. And it doesn't call for any exotic/hard to find ingredients, either! I already had every ingredient on hand.

I like the Stubb's Spicy. I think it has around 7 grams per serving. I stretch it out with a little heinz 1 carb ketchup. You can buy it the regular grocery.

I also liked the light Kraft original...but its really hard to find around here now. I used to find it at Walmart but havent seen it months.

Still missing the KC; Smokin' Joe's is pretty good though. Will have to try that recipe.

My recipe is similar, maybe some smoked paprika, liquid smoke. I took ideas from Linda Sue's BBQ sauce recipe.

of course they are deducting fiber. what else could be in it to make it thicker than water? you could get artificially sweetened and flavored water that was BBQ sauce flavor with no carbs, but the minute you want it thick, there you go.

Here is my recipe:

But first, let me say this: If you like mustard based, then reverse the ketchup/mustard ratios.

1 cup sugar free ketchup
1/2 cup mustard (and dont be shy at trying all kinds of mustard, there are many LC)
1/4 cup of apple cider vinegar (add more if you like it with more vinegar taste)
2 tbsp of Mrs Dash (any kind will do, but I prefer the Southwest)
1 tbsp of granulated garlic
1 tbsp of powdered onion
Cayenne pepper (ground, not flakes) to taste
Splash of Lea & Perrins Worchestershire Sauce
1-2 tbsp of liquid smoke
1/2 cup of Splenda (if you dont like a sweet sauce, omit this- I like sweet heat)
1/4 to 1/2 cup of water

Combine all ingredients in a saucepan over low heat. Slowly simmer sauce for about 10 minutes, stir as needed. The water will allow the sauce to cook enough so that the individual flavors blend well, and will help with consistency.

ENJOY IT!!

Wow! Thanks everyone. I think I'm going to give these 'make it yourself' versions a try! Just another thing I love about this forum!
