Ketosis Question
I stay between 20-40 carbs per day and I might go in and out of ketosis every couple of days. I'm wondering if this is okay to do. . . . is it healthy to meander in and out that way or should I keep my carbs low enough that I'm always in ketosis? (that usually equates to fewer than 20 carbs a day for me) I can definitely feel when I'm in ketosis and it's a great place to be, but it's tough for me to hang onto without adhering strictly to less than 20. Any thoughts?

If you like your progress, and you feel well, that's a good way to gauge your carbs.
If you want to understand the science of the effects of carbohydrate fluctuations, Dr. Richard Bernstein's book, "The Diabetes Solution" is great to read, even for those who are not diabetic. He explains the science of carbohydrate metabolism in a way which is easy to read and understand. We each have to decide for ourselves what the best number of carbs is per day, or per meal. Dr. Bernstein's book helped me a great deal to decide that for myself. We each react to carbs differently. Some need more than 50, or some a good bit higher, to feel their best. Others of us must stay under 20. It takes a bit of experimenting. Here is a support thread of really nice folks eating VLC and some ZC. We'd enjoy having you visit, and stay, if you'd like. I stay under 20 carbs per day, and have no plans to increase that. Best wishes to you. |
