I only eat store baked turkey, roast beef and Ham.
Many brands have websites where you can check out their nutritional content...like Boars Head ... which is the brand I use.

Boar's Head is good quality, and I also get Applegate Farms roasted turkey or chicken breast when I am visiting family and friends who don't eat the way I do.

It took a while, but I finally found Applegate farms hot dogs locally. We wrapped strips of bacon around them and broiled. Will have to look for deli meats.

Forget the prepackaged stuff - go to the deli counter and have them cut meat to deli slices for you - much healthier without all the added preservatives.

Hi laceymichelle…
We have a slicer and make our own.

Far cheaper, tastier, & I know what is in them…

This is what I do with the Boars Head label. They have so many good choices in meats and cheeses. Try them...I think you will love them.

If you like roast beef, this website tells you how to make it and it is excellent! MUCH cheaper than Boar's Head and no fillers. I get my roast from Sam's Club for about 2.50 a lb.

Nice post they have on the site, I saved the instructions but man I didn't need to see that damned pink cupcake! hehe It's my own problem because I am dealing with cravings tonight... but again, that is a great post. I am going to give it a try.

We have no where here that has Boar's head deli meats.

I just started work in a deli and I am going to start looking through the meats and seeing the carbs and sugar content. I know i looked at a cajun turkey last night thst dsid 0 carbs but listed sugar as a ingredient in the rub. errr....

if u have to get the packaged stuff...

Hebrew National. It has the least amount of carb fillers. For pork related products, read labels, and adjust your portions accordingly. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

I worry more about nitrites/nitrates and msg than a little bit of sugar. But then I'm more about whole foods now than super low carb. With that said, I still buy Boar's Head rosemary & sun dried tomato ham, cuz it is sooooooo yummy.

I 100% agree because most prepack cold cuts are HIGHER in sodium content to preserve better. The Deli Counter is where you should go and again, ask for LOWER SODIUM versions if they have.

The Dietz & Watson brand that I get isn't prepackeged and is from behind the counter; maybe your store has this brand. I get the London Broil roast, it's good and goes great with the Dietz & Watson horseradish cheese.

I'm having the hardest time finding nitrate free meat. I found uncured roast beef at Trader Joes. Today I went to Costco found nothing then I went to the deli counter at Albertson's and the only one that looked to be ok was the roast beef everthing else had sugar and nitrates.

Is lunch meat with sugar ok?

Check the label for carbs. Often there is sugar involved in cures for meats, but very little goes with the meat. You can only look and make your judgment.
