What is the fastest way to get yourself into ketosis and how long would it take using this method? Any experience in this department?

Don't forget the exercise. Making your muscles work accelerates your glusoce/glycogen/glucagon burn-off.

I've read about this--I like to snoop around on bodybuilder forums about ketogenic diets. They do zero carbs and aerobics. I'm not going to get into the supplements and injections they do to boost the process...They want to drop as much body fat as quickly as possible to get their muscles showing on the surface, esp. for competitions. They can't maintain that super low body fat all the time.

Also, the ketogentic diets used to control epilepsy in children (the ones that don't respond to medication) used to begin by admitting the poor child to the hospital for a complete fast for a couple of days, but they now realize this is unnecessary.

yeah, their "supplement" routines are ill-advised, but I like reading what they are doing for their ketogenic diets.

So basically, mimize the carbs to near zero (any combo of meat and fat; doesn't have to be a fat fast or a meat fast but too much protein can be converted by the body to sugar) and aerobic exercise to burn of sugar.

I am not this hard core. I need sodium and potassium to prevent the shakes and leg cramps.

The fastest way is just barely faster than the regular way. Have patience and learn to do it right is my advice... but since you didn't ask for my advice I will answer your original question.

The correct answer is fasting. Water fasting. The fat fast will show ketones in your urine faster, because there are too many fats in your system and you have to get rid of them somehow. But real ketosis, IMO, is when BG levels, glycogen reserves and insulin production are all low enough to stimulate the release, metabolizing and excretion of ketones, from body fat rather than from dietary fat. And fasting is the quickest route to that... one to three days depending on the person...

The fastest way is strict Atkins induction (high fat), eating only when hungry, stopping when no longer hungry, and exercise right out of the starting gate.
