Low carb salsa?

Just wondering what brand of salsa people might have found that's either lower in carbs or doesn't have added sugar. Any common brands of salsa that are just veges and salt?

I noticed the authentic salsas in the "Ethinic" area of my store has the best ingredient list. No additives.

I picked up a bunch of jars of Pace chunky salsa, using coupons. There are no added sweeteners. But, there are some carbs due to the tomatoes and onions. I just limit the amount I eat and how often I eat it. As much as I love some of the Trader Joes' salsas, I have to stay away from them, because they tend to contain fruit or sweeteners.

Pace really doesn't have sugar added? Very nice. That makes things easy.

I just went on their site to check ingredients and saw this description for their Pico De Gallo:

Pico is all about the ingredients. Tomatoes firm enough to survive a good dicing. Fresh jalapeņos and just enough heat to scare you. Onions you can practically hear when you bite into them. Cilantro, because it's really not Pico without it. You could make your own, but there's a lot of chopping involved.

LOL, the last sentence just tickles me. Pretty honest advertising there.

Me too! I make my own using roma tomatoes, onions, jalapenos, cilantro, a dash of lime juice and a dash of salt. I love cilantro and I use a lot of it. It ends up looking like a salad with all the cilantro in it. But I love it that way. I don't like bottled salsa.

My 20 oz. jar of Walmart's Great Value brand Chuncky Salsa has 10 calories & 2 NC per 2 T. serving & it has no sugar listed. Here's the list of ingredients: crushed tomatoes (water & concentrated tomatoes), fresh onions, jalapeno peppers, diced tomatoes in tomato juice, distilled vinegar, salt, dehydrated onions & garlic, natural flavoring. I think it may be a PACE knock-off.

I just used some salsa for dinner the other night. Pace Picante mild sauce had 21 nc for the whole jar. I put four chicken breasts down and dumped the jar of salsa over them and let them go in the oven until they were done. Since most of the salsa stayed in the bakimg dish, I estimated 3 nc per serving.

That's one thing I've been craving for the past couple of weeks: mexican food. All of the things I know how to make are very carb heavy. Beany burritos, taco meats with the pre-packaged seasoning. I'll probably just break down and go get some noms at the local authentic joint here soon. Texas fajitas without beans or tortillas. Sounds like a spicy bit of heaven!

Herdez Salsa is the best (IMO) and tastes fresh. Not sure if it is regional - I believe it's mexican then is distributed out of chino, CA, if you are in the western US, you need to try it, it's delicious! . . . and no sugar - just the basics

Here is a list of the ingredients - tomatoes, onions, serrano peppers, salt, cilantro
2 TBL - 10 calories, 1 carb

I use Pace most of the time, but also find some store brands have almost no carbs. I go through about 2 jars a week. Love to make taco filling and add salsa and roll it up in romain. I put it on eggs and baked chicken. As well as just plan dipping with pork rinds.

If you have a food processor, this is the easiest thing in the world to make:

1 large can (28oz) Chopped Tomatoes (choose a brand without added sugar lowest in carbs)
1 small onion, coarse chopped
1-2 fresh jalapenos
2 cloves garlic, pressed or chopped finely
1/3 of a bunch of cilantro (adjust for personal preference)
Juice of half a lime
1 Tbsp Olive Oil (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste

Put everything in the food processor and pulse to desired consistency. Eat over everything! I love this stuff so much better than bottled salsa but then I prefer fresh salsa over cooked salsa.

I do like Mrs. Renfro's Green Salsa though.
