No sugar added ice cream

I live in the Dallas area and we have a local brand of ice cream called Blue Bell. They have the ABSOLUTE best no-sugar added vanilla ice cream (better than regular IMO)

Is this OK to eat on Atkins? The carbs are mostly sugar alcohols.

Thanks

it is "ymmv" (your mileage may vary)

try it on yourself and see. watch the portions though. sugar alcohols can keep you on the "throne" for a longer duration than u wish. It varies from individual to individual. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

It can work in your program. I have used carbsmart once in a while with no problems, although I only make my own at home now.

How many carbs? I've seen no sugar added ice cream and the carbs are still way too high for me personally. Also depends on how much SA you account for.
Some people subract half, some subtract all.

1/2 cup =

18 overall carbs
3 fiber
3 sugar alcohol
6 sugars (from the milk used)

So net 12 carbs per serving.

That's not too bad, per serving. Unfortunately I don't see being satisfied with 1/2 cup.

I LOVE the Breyers Carbsmart Ice Cream. The vanilla is so good and creamy, tastes like frozen HWC to me and it's only 4 carbs per 1/2 cup serving.

Great for a treat now and then!

since I can't buy Breyer's Carb Smart in RI, I make my own. the sugar free ice creams usually have too much sugar alcohol and lactose for my system--my body can contribute to global warming.

Depends what stage of atkins...I stay away from everything like this...sugar free deserts and such....the idea is to not crave these sort of things and a half cup can easily become much more. I always ask myself what dr atkins would say. I have a feeling low sugar ice cream would not be on his list of recommended foods.

we must all know ourselves.

i have just experienced having a 1/2 gallon container of breyers in my freezer, and not devouring it in one sitting. but there are certain things i must keep in the fridge at work. low carb bread,& most cheeses. In public I am great. I cannot, yet, keep them at home. Love & Profits: FLATFERENGHI

That would be too high for me since I try to keep my carbs around 25-30 at the moment. Maybe later on when I'm in maintenance but I don't want half my carbs in such a small serving right now. Thankfully I love coffee so I get that "ice creamy" vibe from my lattes when I make them with Heavy Cream and put Sugar Free Whip on top. Funny thing is much of what I ate pre LC was ice cream and I've now realized its that creaminess that I love, not ice cream itself. Being that I never had Heavy Cream in my coffee before LC its like I'm in heaven right now, angels sing when I drink my SF lattes
I'd stay away from this if you are in the early stages though. If you are not in the early stages, maybe you can fit it into your WOE.
