It's so amazing (as someone intimated way back when the thread first started) at how body types really DO differ. I'm 5' 6.5" and weigh 148.8 lbs. 10s fit me perfectly right now. I can barely squeeze my tummy into an 8 (I'm almost positive the so-called "8" that "looked right" was actually vanity-sized ! ), much less a 4 !!!

Literally, I've been trying to compare apples to pears ! LOL

ETA: Disclaimer... Candiflip: I wasn't calling you an apple NOR a pear ! Just talking about me comparing myself to others in general and seeing your stats. Sorry if you thought otherwise !!!

See ?! SEE ?!!?!

I was tickled pink to see 14s, but counterparts were wearing an 8 ! Before I came to these boards, I would get SOOOO frustrated.

Thankfully, I did start posting and asking questions. I'd have probably given up LONG before now otherwise.

Very interesting how much our bodies all vary. I would love to find a store with some vanity sizing.

I am 5'3", weigh 210, and wear baggy size 14's. I am a hour glass shape and carry my weight pretty good to be able to fit into the sizes I do at the weight I am. I also have lots of muscle which does add to the weight.

This reminded me of something!

When I was in high school, I got down to 112 lbs at 5'7" (not a healthy weight for me!). I STILL wore a size 9! Never could fit in a 7. I have about a medium bone structure, but for whatever reason, my hips (skin and bones that they were then) could not fit in anything below a 9.

This, when I was in my late 20s I got very ill and weighed about 116 pounds. I wore a size 7 or an 8. I'm 5'9". And my frame is not large.

no need to get frustrated- the difference is most likely because you are wearing different brands. Some brands vanity size a lot more so people can wear a smaller size in that store but they aren't really 3 sizes smaller.

Even when I got up to 212 which is huge for a person my height, I still was wearing size 14 jeans and was happy to tell myself I must carry my weight really well.

Now I just want to do a facepalm when I think about that. Unfortunately, my vanity liked that 14 number better than the 200+ number so I let that make me feel less urgent about losing my weight.

I'm happy for everybody's progress, but please do not let the numbers on your tags convince you of anything. Don't compare your size to someone else's and don't feel bad if someone much heavier than you claims to be wearing four sizes smaller than you--it's all such jumbled-up nonsense. Trust your photos, measurements, and the scale to tell you what your body size is.

Yeah. I wish this were standardized so I'd have a benchmark. I hate being confused.

If you wear jeans from the same store or brand, though, you can see that you went down a certain number of sizes within that brand, so that shows you some progress, regardless of how those size numbers compare to anyone else's.

I went from an Old Navy 14 to a 0. Do I really think I am a size 0? No, because I'm not skinny--I'm within a healthy weight range but I should be something like an old-school 4, I suppose. It doesn't matter to me one way or the other because I like the way I look, and what I weigh is appropriate for me. You could slap a size 18 tag on my jeans right now and that wouldn't change what's real.

Also, I've looked up different size charts to compare them and see what the differences are from one chart to the next; that was interesting to do. They're not as far off from each other as I thought they would be.

It's really frustrating to find what my "true" size is. I have 3 pairs of jeans in my closet, for example. A pair of Jordache size 20's that are a bit snug but comfortable, a pair of Lane Bryant size 20's that I can't even button closed, and a pair of Merona size 18's from Target that fit me perfectly. What gives? I wish there would be one standard for sizes and that all the stores would have to follow the same standard!

the cut of pants get me the most....
low cut pants fit me better....
can wear a smaller size do to my waist being only an inch or so smaller than my hips! If they are a normal rise....2 sizes bigger and then they swallow my leg and hips up
I just hope they never stop making the low rise jeans!!!

I feel like you are talking about me when you say vanity sizes ect.. well i am small now.. I can go to any store and wear a size 4 .. and wear small to xsmall tops.. not just one store. I worked hard for where I am! And I'm happy with how my body has changed. I've been working out almost everyday for the last 3 months.. My body changed drastically after adding exersise.. really it did.. again I worked hard for the body I have and I AM a size 4(almost 2) no matter what anyone says

Congratulations on your 80 pound loss. That is a great accomplishment, you worked hard for it, and you should feel very proud of yourself, Candice.

Conversations like this are just a bunch of opinions. My only point is that ideally, it shouldn't matter to us what the number says. Obviously you know that in addition to your weight loss, you have toned and shaped your body with the exercise you do. Your eyes, your measurements, and the scale confirm that. Whether your tag said 8 or 00 right now, that would be just as true. I don't like it when I see us allowing tag numbers to affect our sense of worth, is all.

Again, congrats to you!

You are definitely smaller and accomplished a lot, what size you are doesn't diminish what you have achieved.

I think vanity sizing is something that everyone should be aware of because it is very misleading. And, what you say (" I am a size 4 almost 2 no matter what anyone says) is part of the reason why companies vanity size, women love to wear tiny sizes and will buy brands that give them what they want. But, to be honest, almost 150 pounds is not a real size 4, almost 2. A few years ago(like around 2000) I wore a 2 or 4 at 110 pounds and I am also 5'6. Now I need double zeros or settle for baggy pants/tailoring.

This is one thing that can vary so much. When I was a size 4 I was 98 pounds and had a 25 inch waist. I have no idea what that translates into now, 25 years later. But even young, I had the poochy type of belly, and wore very small tops with all my weight on bottom.

It is suprising to see someone my size 7 sizes smaller (don't mean you candiflip)...but it's totally possible that instead of carrying almost 50 pounds of fat on her body like I am, she's carrying 20 and in different places.

So although it's surprising...folks really can fit into incredible varieties of sizes at the same size/weight.
