Anyone done the "Fat Fast" and willing to share results?

I was reading through the Atkins book again about the plan for the metabolically resistant folks and wondering how well it's worked for anyone here?

Thanks in advance for any info.

I am trying it now because I was yo-yo-ing with 212. I am on day 2 and the food is pretty boring b/c I do not eat mayo in any form as well as some of the other things. I have mainly been eating cream cheese, HWC, and madamia nuts. I did break the 212 barrier on day 2 and will conclude after tomorrow. I will et you know the final results after day 4 and then 7 days after if you like. I just needed to not keep seeing 212-214 for another week.

Rebecca,

Thanks for your input...and YES, I would love to see how it works for you. I've been stuck in the same 5 pound range for so long and as I have PCOS, am seriously considering at least giving this a shot.

I did it last spring when I was really stuck. I think I lost a pound and a half, which was a good start getting going again. I slowly let my carbs/calories/protein creep up though.

Yeah...I'm what I would consider "really stuck" LOL -- I've been between 145-150 since last March!! (Have to add that I was recovering from major surgery from March 15th on for a couple of months, but I'm ready to kick some fatness butt and get to my goal already, sheesh! LOL

I tried it once 2 years ago. I lasted less than a day. I couldn't choke down the allowed foods. I thought it wouldn't be so bad because I don't mind the foods on the list, but really after 3 Tablespoons of cream cheese I just could not do it anymore.

fat fast

I tried it and lasted like 5 days, but i was in such hardcore ketosis that i was really weak but i did certainly lose some pounds... its hard to transition back without going overboard. Just plan out what youre gonna eat when you come off so its not all in vain.

I tried it a few days my last time around, I dropped some lbs. but they just came back with water weight the second I went back to normal low carb. For me, the extreme measures like fat fasts/stillman's is what made me feel deprived and fall off the wagon. I'm just taking the slow weightloss and stalls this time around, but I wish the scale would budge too!

I did it several times in the past and it always got me back on track. To me, that is the beauty of it. It helps eliminate cravings for carbs (IMHO). I would do 3-days anytime I felt myself caving into things I didn't need. My favorite thing to eat on the Fat Fast was Macadamia Nuts and Fage Full Fat Greek Yogurt (plain flavored with a little sugar free jello powder). Lemon is my favorite. I would aim for as close to 90% as I could get.

I have done the FF in the past.

4- 250 cal meals, OR 5-200 cal meals, OR 2-500 cal meals. All with 90% cal from fat.

200 cal from fat=
1/4 c. HWC
2oz. cream cheese
2T. mayo
2 oz. (4T) sour cream
4 strips bacon

Now, what I did was to flavor those things and add dipping vehicles, etc.

Cream Cheese; Make jello/CC, make a dip with seasonings and triple dip with pork rinds, celery, or cuc slices

HWC; Ice coffee, Whipped cream (fresh, flavored, or frozen), with diet root beer.

Mayo; made into ****salad (a bit of egg yolk, chicken, tuna) note: a bit.

Sour cream; again, make a dip

Bacon; I wrapped in a lettuce leaf with a tad of mayo

Avocados also qualify for this plan but, I don't like them so I am not sure how much is 200 cal. Some garlic, onion powder and cilantro would
work for this.

And you all know about the nuts. I used Brazil not Macs.

BTW, caviar qualifies also!

I only did three days and yes, you will gain some back after. The intestines will fill back up!

I did 2-500 cal meals. I am a meal eater not a snacker!

I did 3 full days and one half one. I lost 4 lbs and have only gained one back so far. the good news is 212 is gone which was the goal. Now let's see if we can keep moving down.

I have done it a few times with great results...I used these ideas that I found on another site...I used ****** to put my menus in to get the exact amount of cals ( 1000) and fat ( 90%) to make sure I was right on for the day...good luck..I did the 5 small meal plan.( who wouldnt love 20 strips of bacon for a day?? lol)

4 strips of bacon

5 ozs Macadamia Nuts

Peanut Butter Cream Cheese
1 ounce cream cheese
1 tablespoon sugar free peanut butter
1 tablespoon heavy or whipping cream
10 drops Liquid Sweet & Low (or artificial sweetener of your choice)
1/8 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Blend all ingredients in a small bowl.

Serves 1. Approximately 208 calories.

2 ounces of cream cheese stuffed in one large celery stalk

1/2 pork rinds with 2 ounces of sour cream

Pork Rinds With Sour Cream Dip
1/2 ounce plain pork rinds (1/6 of 3-ounce bag)
1/4 cup sour cream
1 tablespoon grated parmesan cheese
Blend parmesan into sour cream and use as dip for pork rinds

Without Parmesan: 164 calories, 8 grams fat (79%)

With Parmesan: 187 calories, 15 grams fat (77%)

2 tablespoons of sugar free peanut butter on an approximately 7 1/2-inch stalk of celery.

1/4 cup heavy or whipping cream, whipped, sweetened with artificial sweetener, and flavored with vanilla or some other extract.

2 ounces of sour cream on approximately 1/2 cup sliced cucumber.

Tuna or chicken salad with triple the usually amount of mayonnaise.

2 egg yolks mashed up with lots of mayonnaise, salt, and pepper (like you would for deviled eggs), but eaten plain or with a few pork rinds, cucumber slices, or a celery stick

Peanut Butter Pudding
2 tablespoons of sour cream
1 teaspoon sugar free peanut butter
Splenda (to taste)
Combine all the ingredients. This thickens up magnificently, and can either be eaten "as is" or partially frozen, but don't let it get rock hard unless you just want to suck on it.

1/4 cup heavy or whipping cream in a can of diet soda (any flavor)

1/2 package sugar free Jell-O in 1/2 cup whipped heavy or whipping cream

1/4 cup heavy or whipping cream, whipped, with 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder and a few drops of liquid artificial sweetener added (to taste).

Jell-O Whip
1 small package sugar free Jell-O (any flavor)
1/2 cup boiling water
4 ice cubes
8 ounces cream cheese, at room temperature and cut into cubes
4 tablespoons heavy or whipping cream
Dissolve the Jell-O completely in the boiling water, then add the ice cubes to cool it down and to thicken it.

When the ice cubes are melted, pour the gelatin mixture in the blender and add the cutup cream cheese. Whirl it around until the ingredients are completely blended. Pour the mixture into a mixing bowl.

Whip the four ounces of cream, then fold it into the cream cheese mixture.

Divide the mixture into 5 equal portions, cover each with plastic wrap, and put them in the refrigerator to chill.

This makes 5 servings, or all the you need for one day of the Fat Fast. Of course, you wouldn't have to eat all 5 servings in one day. You could alternate them with other food choices.

Cream Cheese Jell-O Chunks

10 ounces cream cheese, cut into 20 equal squares (Not softened!) 1 small packet sugar free Jell-O, any flavor

Pour the dry gelatin powder into a small bowl or onto a salad plate. Set aside.

Roll the 20 cream cheese squares into balls. Roll each ball in the dry gelatin mixture. Place the coated balls on a plate, cover them with plastic wrap, and put them in the refrigerator until you're ready to eat them

Each Fat Fast serving is 4 balls.

I may try a FF on Mon. I think I may try a one day FF every week on Mon. It's an easy day to do it because I am so busy and don't think about food as much. Since it's just one day I will just use some of drjlocarb's ideas as well as Stacy's. Wanna join me?

I just noticed our stats are VERY similar!!

I honestly could never do a FF. I would literally wake up in the middle of the night and throw up just grease after hours of nausea.

Another way you might try to break a stall if you can't stand all the fat. I was on a 2month stall of no weight loss and cut my protein grams in half (from 140 to 60...based on 1gm per kg of 'ideal' weight) and within 24 hours I had to stop taking my insulin at meals (now only take it in the morning) and I broke my stall. I'm once again losing steadily...maybe 10 pounds just in the last month.

"I had some real appetite suppression and felt fine after the initial shock of it.

I believe I can claim (hope) 4 lbs. loss on my five-day fast."

The above is my last post to the "Fat Fast Challenge" thread. I didn't think the food was bad at all, but I went with a lot of the ideas posted on the FF thread rather than just the ones found in the Atkins book. I'm still eating some of those foods. The thing I am realizing is that I really have to pay attention to the calories as I am not that far from goal. Also, I did the FF while DH was gone for a few days. When I fix meals for him, it's harder to stay with the FF plan.

I gained weight on it. Too many calories for a tiny volume. But many do well. Good luck.

Isnt' it only 1000 per day?

I did this years ago in Japan on a dare. I had half avocado with tuna and mayo, Lots of Macadamia nuts, and the little bit of beef cooked in fat. It was very satisfying and easy, no appetite. I wasnt' trying to lose weight but i did. I was very busy so the small meals were very easy to eat between work.

1000 is live very low calories isn't it. Some doctors tell people to try to lose weight on 1200 so it seems that this is more extreme than just cutting calories in general.

I think if I did it again , I'd make mint cream cheese clouds and pipe them out on my scale to make the portions, so I can just pop them from the freezer to my mouth. Honestly I like cream cheese and can eat it straight. There is no choking down for me. It all slides down real easy.

Great recipe ideas by the way. New ways to get the fat percentages, very interesting.

Because the Fat Fast has very few calories, Dr. Atkins advised doing it only 3-5 days. And if one could lose on 1200 calories instead of 1000, so much the better.

I have been thinking about doing this for quite awhile now. I could start on Monday and go until Thursaday nite (dinner out nite) . plus my B-day is Friday , so if I do lose more than normal what a nice present to myself that would be~!
