Everyone could use a little quantum physics with their bacon. The avatar is from a Think Geek shirt that I covet.

It really makes a huge difference. It keeps you on track and even just remembering to keep up good habits.

Yes!! I started induction maybe dozens of times, but I wasn't able to stick with it until I joined a challenge and posted every day. That was two months and 8 pounds ago. Every time I'm faced with a temptation, I think of my team back here on LCF rooting for me, and it's so much easier to stay strong! Even when I strike out and eat the potato chips, it's easier to recover with everyone's support.

I believe that humans are tribal animals and we absolutely need the agreement and approval of at least some part of our society to accomplish the things we want to do. Yes, it's possible for someone to go completely against the grain, but not, I don't believe, in a healthy sustainable way.
So for those of us who want to go so strongly against the conventional wisdom by eating a low carbs diet, who face daily pressure to conform to the SAD, we really need some sort of mutual support, or our resolve will rapidly diminish. The treads about the wonderful support here, about those who have family members who join us and the very few threads about people who find co-workers or such eating the same way, to me just demonstrate how vital this is and how much we crave that tribal affirmation. I know there is a trend to be "self-actuating" but I believe this is just doing things the hard way for the sake of pride. I am happy to admit that I need the help and support of my peers if that gets the job done. Which it does, and the fringe benefits are the great friendships I have made on boards like this one. |
