Are you losing on 50g carbs per day?

Just out of curiosity is there anyone here losing weight while eating 50g carbs per day?

How much weight are you losing?
Are you eating fruit?
Are you eating dairy?

I am losing eating anywhere from 50 to 80 carbs a day. I find I don't lose at lower carbs than this. I eat at least one piece of fruit a day, and I have LC milk in my cereal once a week and heavy cream in my tea 2 times a day. I eat yogurt once a week, and cheese 2 to 3 times a week.

I am losing any where between 1/2 pound to 1 pound a week. Have had a few stalls where I had to see how many calories I was taking in and get real with myself, but all in all it's working well for me. I have lost 19 pounds since Jan this way. It may seem slow to most people, but I only had 20 to lose in the first place, and the pounds are staying off this time!

I do.

When I'm in weight loss mode, my breakfast is one hard-boiled egg, one carton of blueberry yogurt with 1/4 cup of fresh or frozen blueberries added into it, and one orange, in sections. Plus either mugs of hot Earl Gray tea or mugs of coffee with half & half cream.

Lunch is usually a huge salad with some romaine lettuce and lots of the spring greens leafy mix, sliced up tomatoes, cukes, onions, red peppers, and topped with about 5 oz. chopped up chicken breast meat, and enough dressing to coat everything when I stir it together. Whatever dressing appeals that day. I often add a chopped egg to the salad too. Sometimes I glob on about 1/3 cup of cottage cheese. Occasionally about 1/4 cup of shredded cheddar cheese. AND, a peeled and cored apple, cut in sections. Love apples.

I'm a person who enjoys an occasional glass of milk. I sometimes have cereal for breakfast, and always milk with that.

So my carbs are somewhat higher than some other folks choose to eat, but it works for me. In weight loss mode, I count calories too. It works for me.

I probably eat between 60-80 carbs a day and lose 1lb a week. I do eat fruit and dairy. I'm playing around with grains. I can still lose eating them but they bother my stomach.

I easily lose weight on about 65 net carbs a day (like 1+ pounds a week) ... I go lower to about 50 to get better appetite suppression .. but can go even higher than 65 and lose.

As far as my "carbs":

I do eat quite a bit of dairy. I actually use milk in coffee and get about 3/4 cup a day (and did on weightloss too). I also eat 2-3 oz cheese a day.

I have eaten nuts daily .. pecans, almonds, almond butter, the occasional macadamia

I have eaten soy products like veggieburgers, sometimes daily while losing weight too

Lots of vegetables!!!

Very little fruit actually -- I just was never very big on it .. and I do prefer berries of all the fruits, so that fit right in with Atkins, lol!

It absolutely is doable but I suggest finding out whether the foods you wish to add will cause cravings or not .. in my case, I find it is not the carb level until I get much higher than say 70 ... but certain foods just make me not get that appetite suppression even when I eat lower carbs. For me:

lentils
peanuts and peanut butter
bananas

I only mention this because it is not always *just* a function of your daily carb intake ... and I think that is likely the reasoning behind Dr. A's carb ladder.

Most people who eat low calorie/low fat diets lose on more than 50 grams of carbs a day, of course.

My carbs range anywhere from 75 to 150 a day and I am losing weight. I don't eat low fat-I hit my calorie and protein goal for the day and the rest of the macros fall where they may. I eat fruit and dairy.

I can still lose eating significant carbs, but for me it depends on their source. For instance, I can eat a lot of fruit and lose, whereas a little grain can stop me cold. Going up the OWL rungs taught me a lot about how my body reacts to, and uses, its fuel.

I don't eat low fat or low calorie. My fats are high, my calories around 1450 a day, and my carbs are always over 50g everyday.

Everyone is different, and what works for some doesn't work for others. This way works for me and that is what the OP wanted to know.

I need to start upping my carbs so I can find my 'comfort' zone. I've been sticking to under 30 for so long, it got comfortable to me. Oh, I hope I'm one of those people who can eat up to 50 or 60 carbs a day and still lose!

So far I'm at about 40 to 50 net carbs a day...and I did lose at this level but am now maintaining. But I'm in OWL so if I don't lose soon I'll need to try to up my carbs or look at my rung to see if that's a problem. But I think vacation with eating out (sodium and hidden ingredients) and my period are to blame.

Interesting...I've been watching for cravings and haven't really had any. So I'll give it a week or two w/o vacation and w/o period and then try to up my carbs.

I am metabolically and thyroid challenged. I lost the first 50 lbs. with no thyroid replacement (I ate 1/4 cup berries EVERY day ) Protein Power...at the 30gms daily. Then I hit the wall. I kept this off while I was being thyroid replaced, and now I can maintain my weight loss on about 60gms. a day (used to be 70, but now I'm older, and can't work out as hard (almost put 'much')as I used to. So, I have to 'adjust'.

If I drop to 40 grams I lose 'size' really well.

I've been hanging around 25 carbs per day and lost well. In June I decided to add beer since it is part of my barbeque tradition. I have switched to Corona light from a full bodied dark beer, but it has dramatically slowed my weight loss. Since I'm in for the long haul, I'm willing to accept this for now.
Come October I'll drop the beer and hopefully get down to goal soon.

Going through my last time journal when I lost all that weight I kept carbs anywhere form 30-45 but had calories no more than 1500-1600 on most days and was successful. I was losing 1-2 lbs a week pretty steady...some weeks 3 lbs.

But then I hit my first plateau which was 3.5 months after starting and was stuck there for a few months --up and down 2 lbs - - - I had to lower calories and carbs to kick myself into gear again... until the next plateau few months later. Overall tweaking after a plateau had always helped me and adding some exercise.

ALSO cutting back on the alcohol consumption helped speed my weight loss up. I didn't cut out just cut back.

I drank - and still drink - 2-3 glasses of red wine (4 oz glasses, that is, lol!) per week for much of my journey and a few times a year, also, a few whiskeys on occasion (straight up, no mixer) .. I still lost 1.5+ a week for much of it .. would it have been faster without? I kinda doubt it as that is a good weightloss level ...

I think it really depends on the individual and also how careful one is to only drink in moderation ... my opinion!

I lose at around 50 carbs. When stalled , adding more fat always works for me--extra bacon or avacado or oil. I can not eat any flour and very little fruit which I love and miss. Every now and then, I had a drink which doesn't seem to hurt the weight loss. Exercise is essential for me and when I don't go for a swim, the weight loss stops. Bodies are so unique!

Without really meaning to, I'm doing more cycling than staying at a strict carb level. This is working well for me right now.

Last week I ate between 21 and 81 carbs/day and the calorie intake is usually between 1,100 and 1,350/day with one day being at 2,000.

I'm getting 30-40 minutes of moderate exercise three days/week (walking, bicycling).

The exercise was just added a couple of weeks ago and that seems to have served to accelerate my loss. I lost three pounds last week, which is the most I've lost in a week since the beginning of this woe.

I don't drink alcohol. Last week I had full fat cottage cheese, blueberries and ground flaxmeal for lunch at work each day. I've limited my fruit to blueberries or strawberries, although I got a great canteloupe at the farmers' stand down the road yesterday. So I'll spend some of my carbs on that because it is in season and not to be missed.

This is working for me right now. YMMV.

I'm starting again after being away from it for awhile. I found I failed because I was too restrictive. It drove me crazy to have to count carbs so strictly that I would feel the need to write down the 1 tablespoon of heavy cream in my coffee. I just can't live like that. So I'm following Barry Grove's. He recommends staying at around 60 grams. That seems like a very sane and easy number for me to achieve. I won't have to worry about the cream in my coffee or the tomatoes with my eggs. KWIM?

So I'll let you know if that works.

You have to go with what works for you! And if it's hard then it will be hard to stick to it for the long haul! Glad you decided to modify your LC ways to fit you.
