APPETITE REDUCTION...WHEN DOES IT HAPPEN?

Hi all:

Ok, so obviously i've done this a couple of times, however, i'm on day 8 and am still starving.

I've noticed before that there was a severe appetite reduction, but I can't remember when it happened.

Could any of you tell me about when this started working for you?

Thanks!

Are you having enough fat??...I only eat twice a day and with enough fat sometimes once a day...you should never be hungry on this woe...make sure your getting enough fats to satisfy you....being hungry is the biggest reason alot of people binge or have a hard time sticking to it...good luck, you can do it.,..maybe post some menus and we can see where you can add some stuff it to satisfy your hunger...good luck

Yes -- if you're hungry, eat. There will be time enough to moderate calories if you need to, after you've quelled the carb addiction in induction.

Are you sure you aren't making any food choices that are causing your blood sugar to spike? Do you notice the hunger increasing at particular times or after specific foods?

Hoping you get that particular benefit of ketosis in short order.

It took at least 3 weeks, I think, before I noticed that my appetite had decreased.

Having said that, I still have days when I'm ravenous and could eat a scabby donkey !

Depends on the person. I know with me, I think that I'm hungry, but I'm not. Or... I want to graze at night. Bad, bad, bad habit.

I agree with Librarian, are you getting enough fat? That should help stave off the hunger.

I agree, around day 4 or 5 things start to settle down...however as the above poster mentioned...when its about that TOM...I go nuts and have carb cravings...This past month I would have given my right arm for a cinnamon roll from Cinnabon...but I didn't cave in!

For me, it comes and goes. I ate a LOT during induction and right now I'm in a downswing, eating just one meal and a few little snack during the day. I'd like to see some menus from you, though, because you shouldn't be "starving", ever, and especially not on day eight.

Around day 4 of induction my appetite was suppresses- but as other posters have mentioned- my appetite comes and goes. Some days I eat a lot, some not much at all. But I never give myself a chance to become 'starving' that's when bad decisions can be made!

Thank you to all who answered:

NO, I do not think that i'm getting enough fat. That is really important, isn't it? I'm eating more protein than fat...now that I think about it. Its that old diet mentality of cutting fat.

So... i'll keep trying.

Thanks again

After doing a month of low calorie and low fat it is VERY hard to understand that fat is good for you, I know exactly what you mean....But after 4 months and 62 pounds gone thanks to high fat and high protein I know that fat is my friend and oh how I love it......

We would help if you wanna show us some of your menus or can give you some ideas or where to add some fat in..good luck, you can do it...but I do so understand how it is hard to get the mind set that it is ok....

Firstly, WOW, Librarian, you have done amazing - congrats on your losses!!

I was guilty of this misguided thinking even after having done atkins 10 yrs. ago with success and maintained for a couple of years. Somehow I got 'skewed' and was thinking I could do even better if I kept my fat low. WRONG! It took awhile to get it right again but I have to say, it is so much more enjoyable when done properly and even better if understood why that is. I suggest reading/rereading and research. There is a ton of valuable information to be had.

Yeah, my answer is "the 5th of NEVER"!

I think Missouri Librarian is doing so incredibly well because she is eating high fat but also low cal. Important point there I think. (And congrats to you ML! Amazing job!!)

I never really get a reduction in appetite either but the carb cravings usually go away in about a week. That is not to say that something carby still does not tempt me occasionally.

Thank you for all your wonderful answers.

Here is my menu for today:

B: 2 slices bacon
2 scrambled eggs

L: salad from Subway with their tuna salad

D: cauliflower
steak
1 tbs. heinz 57

usually at night i have:
tea w/coconut oil
celery peanut butter

That's pretty much a typical menu for me. I know that peanut butter is not allowed on induction, but i'm ravenous at night.

So......suggestions?

Thanks

You don't seem to be eating enough food during the day-maybe that's why you are so hungry at night. Eat-try some snacks of hb eggs, deviled eggs, celery with cream cheese, cheese sticks etc.

I dont know if I can be much help since I am not on typical atkins, but I dont think your lunch has enough fat to satisfy you and I think I have read somewhere that subway tuna salad has sugars....i may be wrong, but i think I have read that, someone please correct me if i am....can you add some fats in your lunch??....can you add some snacks in somewhere to satisfy you??...maybe instead of the peanut butter, do you like cream cheese?....maybe snack on some cubes cheese and some roast beef for a snack mid day??? boiled eggs??... with your steak, try adding some butter to up your fat, or i dip mine in sour cream or ranch dressing to up my fat.maybe instead of the tuna salad have the meat salad or a chicken salad or can you make your own with some non-processed meats???...just some ideas....

More eggs--with butter or mayo. That works for me, and I think for many others as well.
