Talk Me Down...

A coworker just brought me a plate of homemade beans, rice and cheese enchiladas...quite possibly my favorite all time meal. She knows I am doing low carb but did it to be "nice"...Remind me again all the reasons that I should not eat it!

Thank her, pack it up, take it home and give it to someone else.

For me, if I ate that...my weight would pop up a couple lbs and it would take me 3 weeks to get back to where I was, pre-enchilada. Yay.

On the flip side, I had taco-seasoned ground beef topped with shredded cheese & sour cream for lunch...totally on plan :-)

She knows you're low carbing and still brought you that food? Hmph.

Reasons why you should not eat it:

1. That's not rice, it's fly larvae if you get my drift.
2. She wasn't trying to be nice, she actually put poison in the enchilada sauce
3. They are leftovers from her meal the night before, however as the family slept, her youngest son thought it would be cute to hide boogers in the beans.
4. The beans aren't beans at all. They are cocoons filled with embryonic aliens.
5. If you eat it, you'll spend the rest of the day regretting it and feeling bad when you could be enjoying the weather!
6. The tortilla shell she made the enchiladas with was made from baby pigeons. THINK OF THE PIGEONS!!!
7. The beans will give you painful gas for the rest of the day.
8. Your coworkers have secretly placed bets and are watching to see if you go off plan. The coworker who made the meal has the highest wager. Don't make her rich.

This is a great list! Number 7 is actually probably true! My handy dandy meat and cheese lunch will not cause that problem!

Because you've tasted enchiladas, beans and rice before? Many times? And you already have had plenty of opportunities to savor that meal because it was your favorite. But you haven't had the opportunity to enjoy sticking to your new way of eating and accomplishing your goals (have you? You don't list your stats so I don't know). So why not try the latter, since you already know where the former leads. You can make some low-carb version of Mexican food whenever you want. Find a new all-time favorite meal that doesn't contribute to being overweight.

If she knows you are doing low-carb, that isn't "nice". It's either clueless or downright disrespectful.

Think about it. Enjoying the enchilada for a few minutes vs. working toward your goal for an improved you and a better life. Which is more worth it to you?

Imagine a couple enchiladas pasted to one thigh and a couple more on the other one .. Mentally grab a handful of rice and beans and attach that extra lump to your belly ...

there you go, a few reasons not to eat that plate ... pass it on to someone who could use a few extra lumps ...

That person is not your friend. It's so disheartening when people do that to us LC people. Anyway, Sue's (HerBoudoir) is a two-way winner - tasty food with no regrets. Just say thank you and then throw it away. (I had to do that with birthday cake today.)

DID NOT CAVE...thanks to you all! I seriously sat here and contemplated it, then posted, then got instant responses and felt strong and brave enough to throw it out. I ate a pack of lunch meat and a piece of cheese...I feel so great! Everyone else ate it and are probably now stuffed and bloated

Throwing it out was the best thing you can do..It gives US power over food, which is the way it should be. Some peeps say you are wasting food when you pitch it..You are really saving your life when you throw it out..Good deal.

GOOD JOB, Scout! Now that will be even EASIER the next time somebody is "being nice" to you.

I probably would've handed it back and said, "Gee, that smells delicious, but I don't eat that kind of stuff any more. My health thanks me for it!"
