It's ok.. not the best brand IMO but it's alright. I would use it in cooking mostly if I were you and get yourself some extra virgin for using in barks and supplementation (if you are doing that with your CO).

edited..

I think it's actually a pretty good one after reading about it - it's organic and cold pressed. It says first press so I am not sure why it's not titled Extra Virgin :
NOW Organic Virgin Coconut Oil is a high grade, unrefined premium nutritional edible oil obtained from the first cold pressing of organic coconut (Cocos nucifera) kernels. Virgin Coconut Oil is naturally trans-fatty acid free and high in medium chain triglycerides (MCT).

This oil typically contains the following beneficial fatty acids per serving (natural variation may occur): Lauric Acid 6.5 g, Myristic Acid 2.4 g, Caprylic Acid 1.0 g, Capric Acid 800 mg, Oleic Acid 800 mg and Linoleic Acid 200 mg.

check out my edit above..
it's fine. It is first press.. I am not sure why they don't call it Extra Virgin but it's fine.

I really like Nutiva the very best for coffee and bark but Now looks good.

It's great stuff.. just start SLOW! (like 1 teaspoon a day) and work up. I swear I can feel my metabolism ramp up when I use it!

Now I have about 2 T a day.

Now was the first brand of coconut oil I ever bought. It was almost the last, too. Most disgusting crap I've ever tasted. Maybe I got a bad batch. Who knows. Now I only buy Nutiva brand.

Does it matter if you eat it cooked or uncooked? Meaning, if I melt in in an egg cream, or use it to fry with, are the benefits the same?

A LOT of people have complained about the taste of NOW. I too only buy Nutiva unless money is REALLY tight then I get the stuff in the vitamin section at Wal Mart.

My Walmart carries a big jar of Nutiva extra virgin in the baking aisle. This is a very recent addition.

I have been drinking that one (the NOW brand) and no worries. I recently bought a different one that tastes better (more coconutty) so I use the NOW one for cosmetic reasons. But the NOW tastes okay mixed with something else like coffee or green tea matcha.

I tried it today just 1 teaspoon in my coffee. It tasted fine. But, I got a little sick to my stomach not too long after.

Queasy feeling will probably go away if you keep ingesting it consistently. If you were throwing up I probably would'nt retry that way.

I have read posts of folks cooking their eggs in a little coconut oil with some success.

Coconut oil is always much better tolerated when accompanied with food.

used it for the first time

I used CO for the first time yesterday. I put a tiny bit in my coffee and although it didn't have any taste (at all), it made the coffee really oily so I decided I would not do that again.

Later, I cooked a steak and put some CO in the skillet instead of nonstick spray. Worked just fine and didn't notice any taste.

Today, cooked some cabbage with it. Couldn't even tell.

From the previous responses, it sounds like I need to buy the Nutriva brand, not the NOW that I have. Oh well, still has lots of great uses so I will continue with this until it runs out.

I've been eating it by the spoonful with just a tiny bit of splenda sprinkled on. I guess it's not so weird - my relatives tell me I ate sticks of butter as a little kid. Guess I was low-carbing even as a 5 year old LOL!

Coconut Oil is pretty powerful. It's an anti-viral. When you take oil on an empty stomach it causes the liver to contract. That might be why you felt a bit queasy. But stimulating your liver is a very good thing.

LOL me too--i just to dip my fingers in and eat it right of the tub. Maybe that is why I took to eating it right off the spoon! I may try mixing it with Stev1a and cocoa tonight...

Just tried it in my hot green tea as someone had suggested in one of the many threads about this fabulous stuff! It was really good!
