I use Microsoft excel to input all of the data (and then copied the chart and pasted it into paint to make it a post-able image) but, earlier in the thread someone posted a bunch of links to other online programs.

Thank You!

Thanks TaDa...
I have always been a person who's emotions can flutuate depending on what the scales say. For years, I have avoided weighing....knowing that the truth was going to be there, and not wanting to face it. When I listened to Gary Taubes and WWGF, it all made sense to me for the first time in my life! I immediately quit the carbs, and just mentally told myself that knowing what I now know, I would not keep expediating my journey towards diabetes and heart disease. I promised myself a new way of eating for the rest of my life. I have allowed myself to weigh on the 1st of every month, that way I get a picture of how the weight loss is coming along, but I am not obsessing over it. I can tell by my clothes, and I know that I am not eating stuff that I shouldn't, so it will come off eventually. Month one was rewarding, month two was surprising (good surprise) and month three was a bigt disappointing at only 2 pounds. BUT...I was relieved to weigh today, and then know that I don't have to weigh for 30 more days!! I know that it will all come off and that it will stay off, so I'm trying to just enjoy the journey!! Thanks again for a very valuable post!

Ohh, just the thing I needed to see. This morning I found myself obsessing over numbers again and was afraid to slip into the whole thing where the weigh-in result determines how you feel about yourself that entire day! I really can't go there again and was looking for some perspective! And I got it! Thank you!

DITTO! This totally rocked! I have only been doing this for 3 weeks so I don't have much to graph ... but you can bet I will start it anyways. There really have been 3-4 days in a row where I asked myself if I were doing something wrong because the scales were going the wrong way. Today I was down 4 pounds since my last loss. Patience .. Patience .. patience .. that is so what I need!

TaDa,
Your chart was a BIG help today. I have been doing this since April with slow but steady loss and this week after a Great week last week (for a very unexplainable) reason gained 3 lb. Seeing your chart helped me see that I need to simply keep at it and not expect to lose every week. Thank You for posting!

If I had taken my daily, or even my weekly weigh-ins too seriously, I would have missed the forest for the trees. In one year I lost a whopping 91 pounds, and here it is. It looks great from the perspective of an entire year at one time:

1 Year Weight Chart 6/03-6/04

Looks great right? Well the year's graph says nothing about all the daily and weekly disappointments in weight gain and lack of weight loss. Here is an average two month's segment of that year and well, let's just say there were weeks of disappointment in there:

2 Month Weight Chart 5/04-6/04

But in the long run .. a bunch of these spiky weight charts add up to the year's chart above. Dr. Atkins himself tells us not to consider something a stall without a month of ZERO weightloss or inch loss -- not to tweak unless it comes to that ... If I had taken those weeks of (mostly inexplicable) weight gains seriously, I would never have had that one year chart that meant significant weightloss ... even if it was rollercoaster ride.

I was not sure whether to post this or not, but if it helps one person just settle down and settle in for the long haul, it will have been worth posting ..

You know what to do. Just do it!!!

"Trending Downward" is what I focus on now, instead of the slow steady trending upward that I experienced once I lost a huge amount of weight low carbing about ten years ago. That is the key.
Thank you for that!
I can no longer focus exclusively on what I lost this week, or what I gained the next. Especially we women... we can truly experience ups and downs in weight loss depending on so much more than what we have eaten that week.
This WOE is for life. To be successful we must look at it from a much larger perspective.
All I know is that it took me almost 10 years to add back a lot of my excess weight, so it will most likely take me some time to lose it all again.
I don't beleive that using a scale benefits me at this point. I just can tell over time that my clothes have gotten smaller, or certain clothing items fit me much better, etc.
Pull back and don't be so hard on yourself if you have not lost X amt of weight this week. If you are "Trending Downwards", then you are heading in the right direction.
I try to eat under 30 carbs most days, but about every couple of weeks I will have one of my favorite meals which might take me to 60-80 carbs for the day. You know what, it keeps me satisfied, and I easily go back to my 20 to 30 grams a day eating the next day.
I do it because I can live the rest of my life that way and feel totally satisfied, as I am "Trending Downward."

As always, Pauline nailed this one! I'm so glad to see this post resurrected. It's so hard to be patient but if you're following a plan that's working don't give up because of a momentary blip on the scale. Long-term success requires both a long-term vision and consistent effort.

I really needed to see this today! I know that this site is mainly made up of women, but a good number of men are on here also and we, just like women, feel bad/get down and have our "I feel so fat today" moments. Obviously, today has been one of those days for me. It's not so much that I don't see the scale move (in fact I do not weight myself; won't start doing so until July) but again, the fact that I PERSONALLY haven't seen any changes in the past few weeks. I don't know, but I just feel that every time I do what I'm supposed to (eat healthy, keep my carb intake under 20 for the day, get out and do at least 10 minutes of exercise) I feel I am entitled. . . obligated to lose 1 or 2 pounds, but the reality is some of us are lucky to lose that a week.

The word is "patience" it's just something I/all of us have to learn. 'Rome wasn't built in a day' they say. And as it's been said this is a way of life/way of eating, not some quick fix.

Just thought I'd "bring this tread back on top" in case someone else was in need of some motivation today.
