I am not so much a fan of very authentic Chinese food and that is where you can have more low carb options like steamed fish and whatnot.

Unfortunately my tastes veer towards stir fried meat & vegetable combinations with lovely sauces that go on the rice. And there is tons of sugar and corn starch in that. Sadly, it's something I must avoid now.

I like shrimp chop suey with lots of garlic chili. Yum yum. I ask them to leave out the cornstarch since I have no need for it in my chop suey.

If i am splurging I'll have some egg drop soup and ask for stir-fry broccoli then dip it in my soup. I love it!

Crispy duck or lamb without the pancakes or hoisin sauce. That's about all I trust not to have hidden carbs in it. I don't eat Chinese very often!

Chinese food is very hard for me as I really only like the carby rice and breaded appetizers. However, I do find if I have to go with friends, I do well with the pork strips and the chicken wings. The steamed chicken and broccoli just doesn't have a lot of flavor for me.

The white "steamed chicken" usually has a tasty ginger/garlic/oil sauce to complement it? And at specialty "barbecue" restaurants, the roast duck, Peking duck, roast crispy skinned pork, etc. are extremely low if not zero carbs. I like the Mongolian style places as you can cook up exactly what you want.

I've never had luck trying to order chinese food out. They always say they can't do it without sauce and I don't trust them because of the language barrier. Half the time they can't understand the simplest things on a regular order, I don't expect them to follow a specific order, so I make my own at home. (Here we have a lot of immigrants and they don't speak english very well).

I always order pork strips and dip them in the hot mustard!! The place I go to also has spicey string beans on the menu and that's the veggie I choose! DELISH!!

I'd rather eat the chicken fingers, pork fried rice, and crap rangoons, but they don't like me!!!

Chicken or Shrimp w/Broccoli or
Chicken Chow Mein

Both are preapred without sugar/starch and the taste is different but so much better. My restaurant (I know everyone there and been going to them for years) makes anything I want and omits the sugar/starch.

I love Crab Rangoons! I saw a low carb version not too long ago. Saving it to try when I get to goal. Just a matter of finding the right ingredients for the wrapper because the crab and cheese inside and frying it would be LC. But I'm waiting to experiment with it later on.

Chinese food is hard, it's one of my favs though.

It's better to prepare at home but in a restaurant I would order tofu or shrimp with veggies, or kung pao shrimp with veggies, broccoli shrimp and some egg drop soup with lots of chili sauce. I know it is more carbs than I would prepare so I keep carbs and sodium really, really low the rest of my meals. In a noodle house I have ordered pad thai without the noodles it was very good with lots of chili oil.

I thought the difference between chow mein and lo mein was how the noodles were cooked, but its still a noodle dish. One soft/tossed and one fried.

At least that is how it works down here.

The Chow Mein I've eaten is meat of your choice with celery and onions, and sometimes some sprouts. For chinese i like the steamed seafoods, or other steamed meat and veggie dishes. But that's kind of boring. So I've made some attempts, mostly successful, at making my own dishes such as chicken and beef with either green beans, broccoli or asparagus, some curry chicken with peppers and onions, and surprisingly came out well was the moo shu chicken and beef, sans pancake and hoisin.
