No Energy

I'm on week 3 of Atkins Induction and I have absolutely no energy. I'm envious of those who say they have so much energy on this diet! I actually had more energy in weeks 1 & 2. I don't know if I've just been "off" a couple days or what...maybe it's not the diet that is to blame, but something else. Has anyone else felt like this?

Every time I have heard someone say this they get told to make sure they are eating enough fat and enough calories and later they always come back and say that this fixed it for them.

It's easy to not eat enough food to maintain your energy when ketosis makes your appetite lower.

My loss of energy was due to my thyroid. I hope you feel better!

the new atkins book said that if you feel run down or dizzy that you sould try to up your salt intake...with broth 2x a day or make sure you add 1/2 tsp of salt to your food through out the day (on top of what you are already eating). you might want to give it a try.

I don't know what the new atkins book said about salt but I'd reccomend if you decide to increase your salt you use a good sea salt no typical table salt.

Thanks for the advice! I know I'm not PMSing....I'm almost 60, so don't do that anymore! I find it hard to believe that I'm not getting enough salt, but I'll take that into consideration. Not sure about iron...I take a multi-vitamin, along with a calcium supplement, but I don't know what the iron content is. How much iron should one be taking? I HAVE been exercising more this week...wonder if my body is adjusting to that. I will take all your suggestions into consideration and just "ride it out." Thanks!

WOE: Lots of protein
I get that too when lowcarboing....could be that your body dosen't have the carbs to burn as primary fuel. I would run out of energy when trying to do cardio, was told its harder to workout because your body is adapting to burn fat instead of carbs for fuel.

Do not take an iron supplement. After you hit menopause this is a no no as you will start to store iron in your body as men do. If you want some iron eat red meat. Maybe your carbs are to low some people need 30 or more to feel OK.

Dee1904....I'm wondering if you are right. I've had basically NO carbs for almost 3 weeks now. Maybe I should start adding some. I really think I'm getting enough fat and calories. Thanks!

Are you doing any sort of exercise? I find that now that I have begun an exercise regimin (treadmill & weights) I have so much more energy.

I felt that way until I started on a multivitamin and Vitamin B Complex. Made a world of difference for me.

i disagree with this. Table salt is iodized. We NEED iodine for proper thyroid function. Proper thyroid function = proper metabolism
