Hi Kim…
Maybe you are just hungry for salad. I get hungry for certain foods, and don't read anything hidden into it. I just love variety and I’m the cook. I was hungry for steaks yesterday - so we had steak.

Today I’m hungry for Chicken (and missing tomatoes - we ran out). So we'll have chicken for supper (might make a heavy cream based alfredo with sautéd onions and bell peppers). Then we are going shopping and I’ll get some cherry tomatoes and more bell peppers (we are almost out).

Just being hungry for some particular food is kind of normal isn't it? It doesn't have to be a 'craving'

It could be the way you make you salad up. I mean with the fixings and all. I craved steak everyday last week. I don't like steak. I don't like red meat. But every day last week I ate a steak. And that feeling went away yesterday. Thank Goodness.

I have always craved salads. Love them. When I was a child, I hated them though but always liked to watch people eat them.

I always love salads but some days I really have to have them.

Might be a nutrient thing, depends on what you put in your salads. Is there something that you only eat in your salads? Like for me I don't eat evoo except when I make a big salad.

I went through a salad craze a few weeks ago. I go to the salad bar and load it up with yummy veggies, blue cheese, real bacon bits, blue cheese dressing...etc.

I had to stop though because my salads were costing me a fortune, plus all that salt was stalling me. So ironically I've moved back to eating more meats and now my weight is falling off again.

It was probably the carbs and calories and not the salt.

Salads can get bad quickly if too many extras are added.

Ohhhh, that sounds SO good! All that sounds good, but, particulary, it's funny, the other day I was looking at the box of pecans in my freezer and thinking about the fact that no one mentions pecans here. Are they not available/or expensive across the country, or what is it?

When the weather warms up I start wanting salad. It is not necessarily a craving for me but I during the winter I don't care for them. One of the signs of spring I guess!

For me it's not so much craving salad as wanting something not as rich as my usual fare (which I usually love.)

Also, for our WOE, salads are among the higher carb items, even if they just have a few. Moreso if you have nuts, sunflower seeds, etc. in your salads. Could you be craving carbs? Do you also crave vegetables?

I have been lucky in that I haven't had to ration quantities of lettuces or green vegetables. That makes me quite happy.

I have craved salads before...still do sometimes. Before I started LC, I would get hit with a craving for it, go to the store, buy 2 or 3 bags of salad greens, come home and eat 3,4,or 5 salads. I never added a whole lot of starch either, just a little cheese, dressing and a few croutons. Now I just eat the salad greens, a little shredded cheese, a couple TBSP of Ranch and there is dinner!

Why would someone crave salad?

Because they are yummy?

Seriously, I think sometimes I crave the crunch and jaw exercise more than the actual taste of salad.

Hi folks…
I think the word ''crave'' is overused and overrated.

Just because I really like something and thinking about it makes me want some, it doesn't mean I crave it in a dangerous or unhealthy fashion. I crave water…in fact I’m addicted to it and drink a couple gallons of liquid a day!

I also like coffee, tea, espresso, and my diet soda quite a bit as well...in fact most of them are interchangeable depending on the time of day. And sometimes I want one so bad I actually get up and go get some - it's called being thirsty where I grew up.

I love salads, and eat either lettuce or cabbage slaw daily. I love broccoli, buy it in 4 pound bags about every 10 days, and have it 3-5 times a week, steamed & loaded, or in broccoli salads, or as a side dish covered in butter and cheese sauce.

I love onions and probably use a couple ounces a day! Some days up to 4-5 ounces for sautéd veggies or in my eggs, or in my broccoli salad, or in my tossed salad.

And steaks & burgers....oh oh oh!! Love em so much we fix em a couple times a week each!

Oh, and I really love bleu cheese (buy it chunked up in 3 pound tubs). I like it on my eggs, I like it in my eggs, and in my salads, and in my dressing and on top of my burgers and steaks (and sometimes in my broccoli)!!

Oh yes, and I fry about everything in Ghee. I go through 2/3 of a pint jar of Ghee a week for frying all those eggs, and sauteing the veggies! And don't get me started on shaved parmesan cheese! I wanted it so much I cooked chicken in Alfredo sauce with onions & bell peppers sautéd in Ghee on which I shaved about 1.5 onces of Parmesan for supper tonight! Awesome!!!

I get really hungry mid-morning and ask myself "Self what are you hungry for?" and based on the answer, I go build it!

Now if it comes to determining if I ever crave foods...every once in a while I get a hankering for all-you-can-eat Red Lobster fried shrimp fest.

That may approach craving, and it's very likely to manifest itself in one of our scheduled ''regular'' meals (we schedule one every 4-6 weeks). Yup that one might be getting close to craving - though I don't obsess over it or keep thinking about it till we go there...but I sure like it a lot!
