can you eat too much flax?

I'm eating a lot of flax lately, like those 3 min flaxbreads that are just fabulous. Each "bread" has 4 tblsp. of flax and I eat 3-4 a day. I thought with that much flax in me I would be fighting for the ladies room but nothing has nove in 4 days, and let me tell you. I have plenty of very uncomfortable bloat. So tonight I took a tblsp. of Colon Cleans an am hoping things "work" their way thru LOL But seriously is there a minimum amount you can/should eat? I love the stuff!

Flax works opposite on me--bloat and constipation.

It's also very calorie dense, so there can be 'too much' even though it's low carb.

I haven't tried anything with flax yet but I think that too much of anything is a bad thing.

in atkins book he mentioned having up to 4 tbls a day to keep regular. i think too much is a possibility. if you overeat the bread it may be a trigger food for you.

If you eat a lot of extra fiber than you have to make sure you take in plenty of fluids too.

For me, a lot of fiber constipates me.

You could try not eating any flax for a week and upping your fat and fluid intake to see if it starts moving things again... Works for me!

I think 3 - 4 is too much. Sounds a little like you are replacing one kind of 'bread' for another.

You're eating close to a full cup of flax seeds per day, no wonder you've had no action going on in four days. I'd lay off them for a few days, up your water and fats, and reintroduce them when you can eat ONE cracker per day.

Yes, I have to second that you need to take in a LOT of water when you eat flax bread like that. What works as a laxative with plenty of water can bind you up without enough water.

I thought the limit was 2 Tbsp a day? Does the newfangled program say its unlimited?

You can eat too much of anything. 1 cup of flax a day is probably too much.

Flax made me bloat and I could not lose weight eating it. Be careful.

I have not added flax into my diet for this very reason. I am afraid it will kick my bread addiction into overdrive. If you have to ask, you already know the answer!!

Carbbie I eat alot of flax to, but I also drink alot of water so I don't have any problems. I think like the others are saying , you need added water intake if you going to eat that much. Do mind posting the flax bread recipe?

You can definitely eat too much flax. It really should be used in moderation-- maybe a flax cracker a few times per week.

Too much flax and not enough water will definitely plug up the works.

Drink as much water as you possibly can, and reduce your flax intake.

harleychic, I understand your concern, but I think it would be like worrying that cauliflower would kick up a potato addiction because it's a white vegetable that's vaguely similar. Flax just isn't that good, despite what people say! I mean I love the stuff, but it bears about the same resemblance to "real" baked goods as cauliflower does to potatoes, so you have to love it on it's own terms.

I think the danger with it is twofold. First, it probably has about 1.5 grams of carbs in a quarter cup, not zero, so eating 3-4 quarter cups a day, as the original poster does, would add 4.5-6 grams of carbs she's probably not counting.

Second, like everyone said, it's killer if you aren't drinking enough water, and enough, with a cup of the stuff in you, is a LOT.
