Pork Rinds

Where do you guys get yours? I can NEVER find them anymore and IF I do they are the hot or flavored chemical tasting ones.

And, while I'm asking - What's your favorite brand? The few times I DID find the plain ones they had big, hard parts that wouldn't crumble..........Do all of the brands have that or are some brands better than others for incorporating into meals as a bread crumb substitute?

We get them at our local Sam's Club -- a huge barrel of Utz brand for around $6. We call the container "the astronaut helmet", so you can figure the size.

I was surprised the other day reading the Weston A. Price Foundation shopping guide -- Utz pork rinds are listed as a "best" choice for snack foods. The listed ingredients are just pork rinds and salt.

The rinds themselves are some of the best plain ones I've had. A good size and shape, nice crunch, and they also crumble well for crumble-based applications.

I get the Sams Club ones, too. Surprisingly, Big Lots stores have nice fresh ones that are pretty good, too.

Hi Spop…
I get the Lowrey's Bacon and Hot-n-Spicy ones that you do in the microwave a bag at a time (in about 1 minute).

As mine age out a few do form hard bits on them, and to me it's like the old-maids in popcorn...inevitable and I just toss em out.

Thanks guys........I don't have a Sam's membership, but I do have a Costco's. Wonder if they sell them there. I do know where some Big Lots stores are.......I'll check that out too.....thx.

If you have a Mexican grocery nearby, try some from there - chicarones. Around here they have no added junk and they have more of a meat-y texture than the fluffy ones.

Whenever I get the hot and spicy kind, I like to dip them in ranch dressing. It kills the spice, and tastes really good. I usually get mine from walmart...but they are usually in an odd place or corner somewhere!

The one 7-11 has them but only in the small bags. The other place that I can find them is the one local Walmart.

the Baken-ets brand (Frito lay?) is very mild (not pork tasting) and fluffy, and can usually find these at Walmart and grocery stores. At various discount and dollar stores I often find off-brands of chicharones which usually have a stronger flavor and often have the odd hard bit (even hair!!!) here and there.

This is where I get mine.
The store brands are OK, but I think they are more puffed. The mexican market ones are crunchier for sure.

I've never seen UTZ pork rinds at the Sam's here! But just seeing the name UTZ in print made my mouth water
In my "before LC" life, UTZ dark kettle chips were my very favorite snack. Probably if I had one now, I wouldn't even like it. Funny how just seeing that name in print made my brain react, though!

Here in the good old south, ie North Carolina, there is a brand call Junior Johnson's Pork Rinds. They have all kind of flavors. I mostly get the bbq and the cheese rinds. I use then mostly for toppin salads these days. This is the only brand that I have found that have cheese flavor. Almost makes you think you are eating the crunchy cheese puffs.

The name alone sounds like NC. What stores carry them Rob?

I have gotten them at most Food Lions but they only carry the most popular flavors. Reg/salt&ving and bbq. I know this sounds like hicksville, but the place that I get the cheese ones is at the Derrick Truck stop grocery store on I-85, Peeler Road exit. Maybe # 70-72? I had worked late one night and stopped there to load up on eggs and bacon. Went to the store which attached to the restaurant to get me my beloved Diet Mt. Dew and reached down to pick up a bag of pork rinds to eat with my midnight meal. There they were, cheese rinds. I have been getting them there ever since.

Kroger carries both baconette and their brand and honestly, Krogers brand is better lol
Nice and fluffy and not overly "piggy" tasting or salty.

Needing people in the NY Tri-State area to weigh in on where you purchase yours. Most of the stores listed aren't even in my neck of the woods.
