June 2009 167 bs

Yes, we are all different but we do have a lot in common as we make deliberate steps towards healthier living. I too am curious about the journeys of others. Especially when I get discouraged I like to read about how others have overcome (or not) various issues with diet or exercise. I'm too lazy to try the recipes on LCF but like reading them.

Good luck to you all!
Wow, you have done amazing. When did you start to do vlc or is that what you have done all along?

I started with the VLC in January 2010. I THOUGHT I was low carb, and WAS comparatively low carb earlier, but in reality I was eating a ton of vegetables for the first 6 months - and that worked for me. It was so much better than I had been eating! Just cutting out potatoes, noodles and, um, daily fast food probably reduced my carbs from a kabillion a day to 40 or 50 a day. Now I aim for 10 grams of carbohydrates a day and am usually in the 5-15 range. I also added exercise in January for the first time in 20 years (because I CAN!), and am loving it

Thanks for your support. The info and advice on LCF is a major contributor to my knowledge base and to my morale.

My weight loss has slowed a little. February pounds were really a struggle. I'm hoping that has more to do with adding exercise and muscle than other factors.

I'm 54 and have diabetes - I am focusing on getting my blood sugar levels below 100 instead of weight. I am a sloooowwww loser and am fairly near goal. If I stress about pounds lost or not lost - I end up going off plan.

Great thread. I love seeing the amazing results, and I love seeing how different we all are.

I'm 52. 5'3" and a half. Post-menopause.
Recovering from eating disorder (Night Eating Syndrome).
I want to lose 45 pounds.
This is my second truly serious LC endeavor, the first being a decade ago.

Weeks:
1... 7.6 lbs
2... 2.6
3... 0.2
4... 1.6
5... UP 0.2 (marks where I feel like I got my eating disorder under control)
6... 2.8
7... 3.8
8... 2 (began upping carbs to find carb level for losing, OWL-style)
9... did not weigh
10.. 1
11.. 0.2
12.. No loss
13..did not weigh. cut back carbs below carb level for better losing.
14.. 1.8

That's 23.6 lbs in 14 weeks. 1.7 lbs a week average loss.
It's slow, but I feel well and I'm on my way to locking in a good, sustainable eating style, so I'll take it.

The first time I did Atkins I was 35 and started at 215. I lost 13.5 on induction and 23 lbs by the end of the first month. Only cheat was two glasses of wine one night in week 3.

I am 10 years older this time and have had two kids. But the losses seem pretty close this time too. I have lost 5 lbs in five full days.

I've never done any Atkins plan. I don't recall what I lost the first month or even the first week when eating low carb. Not even the first time. I guess it was not important to me even when I worshiped the scale. I guess I was always looking ahead.

These days I'm more interested in losing fat & inches, as well as looking & feeling good than the number on the scale.

Geez, I'm glad I didn't know about this when I was starting; I only lost 4 pounds in the first month. I only lost a pound a week for the first 31 pounds. After that it was more sporadic but I still lost an average of 4 lbs. a month. I was 137.5 this morning so that's 93.5 pounds lost. I'm going to eat the same way no matter what my weight so I guess it doesn't really matter.
