Vitamins. What do you take?

Im taking a ONE A DAY MULTI and two FISH OIL capsules daily.

I used to be far more obsessed with taking all different vitamins. Now I dont.

I just re-read my DANDR book and there was soooo much emphasis on vitamins (by Dr. A himself) but...Im still unsure of the true benefits of vitamins so im opting for the minimal stuff, for now.

BTW, Im 48 years old, and peri moenopausal !

I'm not a big pill taker of any sort... I'm trying for just a one a day multi but I forget quite often... I agree lots of emphasis is put on vitamins by Dr. Atkins, can't wait to hear what others are taking:-)

wow they JUST did a news story on our local newscast about how 'Fish oil' capsules are found to have PCB in them?? or something like that.

They mentioned 8 brands that were NOT PCB free..and that they could cause cancer . Sigh.. They mentioned. 'Nature Made' among other brands.

Anyone hear of this PCB they are referring to??

A generic one-a-day for weight loss vitamin. If I don't take it I get cravings.

Extra calcium + D - it helps with fat loss and osteoporosis runs rampant in my family.

At least one 1200 mg fish oil capsule daily for back pain. I've noticed if I don't take it for a few days, I'll get that twinge in my lower back again. However, now I'm off to see what this PCB is all about...thanks for the info!

I take vitamin C, vitamin D, vitamin E, garlic, vitamin B-12 and acidophillus (which I am out of right now) I usually take calcium too but I am out of that as well.

I should take a multi, but I read a Kevin Trudeau book that (whether or not it is true) freaked me out about multi vitamins, how they are supposedly really bad for you.

Kal High Potency soft multi (with iron) - makes me feel soo much better. Without these I'm afternoon napping.
B-12 as needed for energy (I work at 6 am and often for 12 or more hours at a time)

Just started taking Calcium/D/Mag because I broke my foot and really shouldn't have. After doing some calculation, except on the days when I eat cheese, I was only getting about 50% my calcium needs.

I used to be a non-vitamin taker till I figured I would try a soft gelcap vitamin (rather than hard pills), and it gave me so much energy (and does not have many B vitamins in it) that I am convinced there is something that I desperately need from it. I'm sold on vitamins.

Magnesium

I have spent so much money on different vitamins over the years. I have not noticed any difference. So now all I take is a multi vitamin and when this supply is gone I'm done with vitamins for good.

I take a bunch because I believe in them all. Have since 2002 and if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Having said that ... if I only could afford two supplements, they would be CoQ10 and Krill Oil.

Betty - you've mentioned krill oil a couple times, I've never heard of it - do you get the same benefit as omega 3 oil? I take salmon oil capsules and wonder if krill is better?

Its funny that this thread came up - dh picks on me all the time about the "handful" of vitamins I take every night. They seem to make me feel better so I just let him pick.

I take:
generic multi "complete"
garlic
potassium
salmon oil
calcium/magnesium/zinc combo
Probiotic
and during cold flu season - extra Vit. C, Zinc and echinacea

I've been taking 5-HTP for the past month but haven't really noticed any difference in my mood or cravings so I don't think i'll buy it again once I run out.

A whole food multi vitamin (covers all bases and I feel fantastic when I take it)
Biotin (for hair and nails)
Omega 3's (for overall well-being and my skin and energy)
D3 (because I like having an immune system)
Probiotics (usually as needed if I have a tummy upset or something)
Magnesium (to help me relax and sleep and take care of bathroom business )
Virgin Coconut Oil (thyroid support/energy/warmth, skin, hair, and nails, & brain function)

I used to take Spirulina and swore that I would never be without it. Unfortunately, I started feeling really bad on it and I have to wonder if it was related to the iodine and my thyroid problems. I miss the energy boost it gave me - it was fantastic.

I have CLA and GLA, but am on the fence as to whether I should take them or not.

Neecy, yes, krill IS the superior oil. Dr. Mercola and Dr. Eades both encourage it over the regular fish oil.

Here's some good reading on it.

Krill Oil 48x Better Than Fish Oil?
