"In the Obesity Epidemic, What's One Cookie?"

In the wake of Michelle Obama's platform to end childhood obesity and get kids healthier, this is an article that I found interesting.

I don't even have kids and I completely agree! I see that articles like this are what encourage people to eat the bad things that are "low-cal" time and time again.

And we also need to stop susidising corn and soy. This is my biggest concern and unless this new program is talking about ending this insidious behavior, we don't have a healthier program.

Dr. Ludwig still encourages individuals to make small changes, like watching less television or eating a few extra vegetables, because those shifts can be a prelude to even bigger lifestyle changes that may ultimately lead to weight loss.

Baby steps over time add up to giant steps.

No more subsidies or new programs for Pete's sake! Ridiculous to use the tax payer's money for any of it!

I almost didn't read the article because I hate thinking about politics. Ugh. But there's not much in it.

How did this person manage to miss the entire point of the article?

I couldn't figure out where all the political backlash came from.
I wouldn't classify that article as political.

Well, at the end, the author does call for more government regulation AND less government interference.

The article isn't political.

It does quote one doctor who suggests that junk food ought not to be subsidized and the mass promotion of it might have to be curtailed if we are to expect kids to change their eating habits, but that is not an editorial by the author, it is an observation from a source.

My issue with the article is simply that everybody in it seems to overlook the apparently little-known fact that weight gain is not just about calories in-calories out but also about carbs, blood sugar and insulin. No news there, eh?
