How much caffeine is in your drink?

From Energy Fiend an 8oz. cup of instant coffee has 57mg of caffeine.

A Starbucks Grande Caffe Americano has 225mg!

I can see why I loved Diet Coke so much! It comes in at 45mg.

However much is in two shots of espresso. Sometimes twice a day.

Google says each shot of espresso is roughly 77 mg of caffeine.

Hi JazzleBug…
Been roasting our coffee (and pulling shots) for nearly a decade. Google & wikipedia are kind-of-right.

Depends on the kind of bean, and the level of roast. A double shot of espresso with 1.5-2oz liquid is 77-100g of caffeine & 7 oz of drip coffee is 115-175g of caffeine.

Robusta beans have far more caffeine than Arabica beans. So bargain bin tins of coffee will have the most caffeine of any when brewed.

Think of it this way...
Every double shot of quality espresso has 1/2 - 2/3 the amount of caffeine as a 7oz cups of coffee (who drinks 7 oz of coffee?).

A lot of the caffeine in Starbucks (or other coffee shops) comes from 'other' ingredients (like chocolate).

And the extra good news is if you really like your espresso ''Black'' and oily roasted - it has less caffeine yet (burns out in the roasting). I don't like burnt coffee, but for those who do, you can drink more!

Actually, I'm not worried about caffeine levels any more than I worry about calories...
